4 Strategies to Market your eBay Business

 

eBay is the world's largest online auction site, attracting millions of potential buyers. How can you market your eBay business to most effectively reach customers?

1. Use the eBay "About Me" Page Effectively

After many sellers' eBay ID's, you'll see an "About Me" button to click. This will take you to a page full of any information that the seller wants to make available. Are you taking advantage of this free service of eBay, and if not, why not? It is a great way to promote yourself as a reputable seller. You can post a photo of yourself and list your experience, feedback from buyers (which are excellent testimonials about your business), links to a business website you might have, and any other information you would like to share.

Some sellers are wary of using the "About Me" page because of fears about their personal information being made too public. But, most buyers aren't interested in your personal information - they just want to know what makes you stand apart from the competition as a seller. The "About Me" page is an excellent place to make your case for why you are the best seller for a potential customer to buy from.

2. Be a Part of the Community ...

... the eBay community, that is. eBay has many seller forums, divided into numerous interest areas. Read the forums often and post as well, and you will establish yourself as an expert in the field. As you become a respected member of your forum of choice, other readers will be more likely to look at your current auctions and consider your items to purchase.

Don't limit yourself to eBay's communities. There are many online forums and message boards; try finding one or more that focus on the items you sell (vintage toys, homemade doll clothes, etc). Become a respected member, and list your eBay store or seller ID in your signature line for forum posts.

An important caveat before posting your business information on any forum is to read the community's guidelines for business promotion, and be sure to comply with them.

3. Don't Forget Social Networking Sites

Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and other social networking sites can be effective methods for getting the word out about your eBay business. You can Tweet about new items listed, for instance, or post photos on Facebook of items you have for sale.

4. Create a Website

For any business, a website is an invaluable marketing tool. It gives you an online "home." You can set up a website for free through Blogger or Wordpress, and both sites are fairly easy and intuitive to set up. You can list current items for sale on eBay on your site, and have separate pages for feedback, photos, shipping info, and any other information that would be helpful to buyers. Be sure to link to your website on your eBay "About Me" page and on each of your auctions.

With a bit of effort and creative thinking, you can market your eBay business to reach many more potential customers.
