4 Easy Tips for Losing the Baby Weight


Losing the baby weight after pregnancy is a challenge, and the process can be frustrating. You immediately shed some of the weight after child birth because you're no longer carrying a baby or extra water. It's those last remaining 15, 25 or 30 pounds that pose a problem for many moms, and it can take years to get rid of the extra weight gain. You can achieve more success and lose weight faster if you follow these four tips:

1. Eliminate Additives and Preservatives

You may have noticed that it's difficult to lose weight, even if you lead a healthy lifestyle. One reason is because of the additives and preservatives that are included in processed foods. Many of these contain chemicals that lead to weight gain, in addition to causing illness and disease. You can see immediate results if you buy foods that don't contain any or very few additives and preservatives. Not only will you experience the benefits of losing baby weight, but you may feel more energized to follow an exercise program.

2. Get Active

If you're like many work-at-home moms, you are seated in front of your computer a lot during the day taking care of your business, working as a freelancer, taking care of personal and family responsibilities online or homeschooling your kids. You may need to get up and get active. As a busy mom, it may be difficult to join a exercise class or sign up for a formal workout program. There are still ways to get active that can help you with losing baby weight. The trick is to find something to do that you enjoy and  that is realistic for your personality style and circumstances. For example, if you hate the outdoors, then don't commit to hiking once or twice a week. If you're always with your your children, then find ways to get active as a family.

3. Include Weight Lifting

Weight lifting helps you burn fat a lot faster. You should include it in your exercise routine at least three times a week. The best method of losing baby weight is to work on arms, legs and back muscle toning and building. You don't have to invest in expensive equipment or a gym membership to do this. For example, you can do squats using a kitchen chair to work on toning your leg muscles. A broom is handy for doing twists and working on your abs. You can also buy 5,10 or 20 pound free weights fairly inexpensively. Monitor websites like and even for free or cheap weight lifting equipment if you do want to build a home gym.

4. Eat in Moderation

When you were pregnant, you probably ate large portions. You may have been justified to do so, but you have to break the habit if you want to lose the weight. Reverse the habits you picked up during pregnancy and eat in moderation. It may seem like a small step, but it really will make a difference.

Try to make the journey of losing baby weight as fun as possible. If you focus on it being a diet or dread the process, then you'll give up.
