mom's village

Summer vacation time is here, will you take your work on the road with you?
Will you be a WORM? (Work on the Road Mom)

Your responses . . .

Yep! I get my best ideas on vacation. So I bring the powerbook.

If it would mean the difference in losing a contract, I would. If I could talk the customer into waiting, I would wait, but since I am still in the initial stages of building a client list, I can't afford to lose the business or reference.

No way! We are all entitled to vacations. Vacations give us time to not think about work. Why shouldn't we enjoy our time off like people who work in the office. I bet we work when we are sick, when our kids are sick, etc. while people who work in the office take time off. Do you get sick days when you work at home? No, so enjoy your vacation!

Yes. I've just started my business (desktop publishing) and I'll be visiting friends and relatives in other states. I'll be advertising the entire time!

ABSOLUTELY! My "work" is the most fun I have doing something "just for me". I'm planning a working vacation this year attending our national convention and am working on earning a Carribean Cruise! I also bring stuff with me wherever we go and try to wear my nametag at least once a week (even when we're out of town - I did yesterday while on vacation in another state and got three leads!).
Have fax machine will travel... I have to take work on the road almost every time. You can't get away with anything when you are your own boss!

No. I work at home because I want to be with my children as much as possible. Vacations are a time to include "Daddy" full time for a week or more! We use vacations to get away into our own little world. We will do extra work before we go researching historical places and fun places to visit and learn about along the way.

Of Course! I can't cart the computer system around, but I do take a totebag full of articles I have been trying to read and billing/paperwork that I need to catch up on. I also take my "Ideas to Try" book - and embelish on what I want to do - Website, Newsletters, Sample letters (rough drafts), etc.

I am a consultant, so I can schedule my time -- somewhat. I have made an arragement with an associate who does what I do: when I am out of town, I forward my office phone to her for "emergencies" and she does likewise. I notify my clients in advance and it works out very well.

Our vacation was sort of a working vacation to begin with! So that we could all be together, my 4 year old and I drove with my husband up the eastcoast of the U.S., taking time for family and fun.
My husband has a business (media production) and I'm a network marketer, working from my home and PC. We decided it was worthwhile to buy a laptop. Besides my business, I also host a weekly chat on AOL and didn't want to miss that.
I had follow-up calls and mailing to do that couldn't wait 2 weeks and I really wanted us to all be together. It really worked out well. Most of the work I did was either first thing in the morning (while the guys were swimming) or late in the evening.
Next year, I'll know not to place an ad right before we take off though!
