mom's village

Do you work out of your car, at the kitchen table? How many of you actually have a "home office?"
Where do you work?
.

I have an office set up in our spare bedroom. This makes things odd when we have company! LOL!

We converted the formal dining room into my office and it works great!

Originally, I had a whole room to myself, until my one year old son came along! Now I have a wall to myself in the guest bedroom. I don't mind though, the bed makes a great table!! The problem is when we have guests (like this week)!

When we moved into this house, we weren't equipped with furniture for both the family room and the formal living room. I can be pretty quick on my feet, so I looked at the living room and said "What a great office space!" It is on the main floor, easily accessible if the kids are about, bright, roomy, separate from the rest of the house (thanks to French doors), and comfortable.

It feels like a real office so I am motivated to work when I am there. And we haven't really missed the formal living room.

I don't have a home office, but I do have a corner! We've got the computer and hutch set up in the dining room, and I try to keep my papers and notebooks in some kind of order in a file briefcase. I'm pretty new to being a WAHM, and I think my husband and I are beginning to realize we need to make some changes that will give me privacy from the TV and the kids if I'm really going to make this work. I'm hopeful!

Let's see, there is the den, which is set up as a work area for me and a play area for the kids (2 1/2 and 6 months) ... but more often the notebook computer migrates to the bedroom for the early morning hours before they are up and when they are sleeping or to the living room so the older one can play in the yard under my view.

I have a corner desk that sits in a corner of my dining room. I have a two year old and am 4 months pregnant, so I have to be in a room that will allow children - at - play. I have learned well how to tune out all of the toddler music and noisy toys. It is only a problem when I am on the phone for business.

I'm lucky enough to have an office, but it is no where near big enough. (Is it ever?!) I own a candlemaking company and need lots of room for equipment, storage and candles that are being made. My dream is to move to the country where I can build a work shop in the back.

I am a visiting nurse and I work out of my car and end up doing a lot of paperwork on the living room floor. The computer takes up any desk space I might have for a home office.

I have a corner of our exercise room with a desk and computer that I use as my "office."

First I worked upstairs at the kitchen table. Then I moved downstairs into the clubroom to have room for the desk/fax/computer. Now we are looking at a house with room for a real office....although I am finding that with a toddler it is nice to be on the main floor, and in the main living area so that other things can be tended to while working without running up and down and in and out. Also to feel less isolated! I still don't know what's best! FYI I work as a buyer for a manufacturer approx 25 + hours per week.

I share my deluxe office suite with the family washer, dryer and food pantry items!

My bedroom is the size of our two car garage. I have a corner designated with a Desk and my computer. The desk matches my white wash oak bedroom furniture perfectly. The best part about my office in my bedroom, is that it is PRIVATE.

I am a home based travel agent whose "office" consists of a small computer desk jamed into the kitchen corner. My husband thinks that the computer is only for playing games and fighting our two sons (ages 3 & 1) off of for entertaiment! But I would not have it any other way...just as long as I can continue to work and be with my kids!!!

I work at home in my living room with my computer sitting on an old card table on which my 1 year can reach up and grab the mouse that he loves to throw on the floor.

I work at a computer in our "office" nook of the dining room. The PC faces the stationary panel of a sliding glass door. Through the moving panel, I can look out and watch my kids play in the backyard. Cool, huh!

I actually have 3 "home offices." I have the beautifully laid out, multifunctional office, equipped with fax, computer and full bath in the downstairs part of the house. (Right next to the washer and dryer!!) The adjacent room is filled with the toy kitchen set, easels, and of course TOYS!! That is where I would like to be able to work, of course it is too far from the everyday flow of the household, so I work at my second and third "offices," the kitchen table and livingroom desk/computer area. I, of course, have to fight for this space whenever I have work to do because the family believes this is their space. FOOLS!! It's all MY space!! But I wouldn't exchange any of this for a highrise view. Where else would I be allowed to hang fingerpainted pictures on the walls??

I have converted my dining room into my office. It has been this for about 3yrs. now. I have a desktop publishing company that I run out of my home and when I am working, my family knows it is hands off. When I finish, if the kids need to go online, or if they want to play a game, they are welcome but when mom is working, they pretty much leave me alone to finish.

As I sit here typing this entry I am surrounded by the the sounds of swishing water and scraping gravel. My home office is located in the back room of my house which is also the laudry room and the cat's "WC"!!! A times it gets a bit hard to stick but until I move into a larger home, this is it!

All over the place! My computer is in my bedroom; I spend a lot of time at the local library, and I do "projects" at my dining room table (on those rare days when it's not covered by laundry).

My "office" is an extra bedroom next to my children's bedroom. I have a desk set up in the middle of the room (in order to distract little ones from turning the available floor space into another play area) and my husband's clothes in the closet.
