I usually wear comfy clothes when working at home,
but I try to still look like I'm somewhat put together.
The one thing that has gone by the wayside on days I
don't have to leave the house is makeup.
It's awful! I am not your Cindy Crawford look alike. I tend to wear the fashionable
T-shirt and Sweat-pant look. Then again, sometimes I get kinda in a fancy mood and put
my hair up in a bun and put on some old shorts or something. I think I am in need of a
major make-over!
Tell you about my "uniform", huh? I should let my daughter answer this one. One of my alter egos is that of a Community Leader for AOL. When you sign on using your staff name, it's called "being in uniform". So, one day last week, when it was time for me to go online in my official capacity, I mentioned that I had to "get in uniform". Darling daughter asks, "Does that mean you're getting in your p.j.'s and slippers, Mom?"
Since I do day care and sew dress-up clothes all day I rarely dress in anything but jeans and sweatshirts and my hair pulled up. No make-up of course:) But, when the opportunity to go out on the town arises I love to dress up nice and do my hair and make-up. Those that I know who HAVE to dress nice for work can't wait to get home and dress "down".
If I am going to be at home decorating containers, I only dress for comfort and in things I don't care if they get something on them. If I have to go out, wheter it's to the bank, post office, or to deliver an order, I ALWAYS dress for success! Also if I have a customer coming over to look at things, I dress for success. If you don't take yourself seriously, no one else will either! :-)
I dress like a SAHM, even though I am a WAHM. Most days no one besides Vanessa (age 22.5 months) sees me, except maybe other moms at the library or park or grocery store during my "lunch break". So I just wear jeans and a shirt, or long johns, or shorts and a T-shirt, depending on the season. And on Mondays when I go into the office, I dress up, complete with makeup, heels, etc.
To be honest....some days I don't even make it out of my jammies :o) But normally I do the typical stretch pants and oversized shirt thing. When I have a prospective client meeting, I always wear some nicely tailored suit with just enough accessories for them to see my creativity. As I get to know my clients, I let my "true self" be known and where more stylish and comfortable clothing. But I'm telling you....I'd rather wear my jammies!
Since most of my work is just over the phone, my regular atire is sweat pants and a t-shirt. I mean, no-one knows what I'm wearing so who cares. Plus chasing a 4 year old around all day and working on the computer and answering the phone doesn't leave much time for primping!!! :-)
Dress for success, of course! If you don't visualise your own success, you can't materialise your own success.
Now that I 've started my own business in retail. I want to look good so I try to dress for
success.
I am a Professional Image Consultant
but I do not want to be uncomfortable
or intimidating to my clients who
come to me for advice. I wear any-
thing from dress jeans and bright
sweater to casual knits with blazers.
This way I can still play Candyland
on the floor and be ready at a moment's
notice for my clients. I am amazed
at how many people I see while running
errands who assumed I had a traditional
career outside the home because I
don't appear like a mother who stays
at home with her kids. Come on moms-put
put on some makeup and let that
ponytail down. You worth the time
it takes to feel beautiful and
desireable again.
I do most of my work during my son's naps or late at night after he's in bed. Sometimes I'm up until 4:30am. So, comfort is the key! I wear sweats and slippers. Yahoo!
I usually am up, showered, dressed and makeup before I start my day. It makes you feel professional. I do admit though that my attire is a lot more relaxed than when I worked outside the home.(sweats and leggings versus business suits and stockings).
Unfortunately, I must say that I most closely resemble the "dress to depress"! However, it depends on the day of the week. I *try* to schedule most of my errands and deliveries to two days a week and I dress much better on those days! Other days when I know that I am not going anywhere comfy sweats are my uniform of choice! I have been "caught" my a customer who stopped by unexpected and I was wearing my Tigger slippers! Oh well, at least he thought it was funny!
If I stay in my robe, I don't consider it work - even if I talk to clients, fax an invoice, and close a deal before breakfast, for some reason, if I wasn't dressed it doesn't count. It's as if I were one of my clients, watching from another room. Would I be happy getting my quarter-pounder with cheese from a teen in a big t-shirt and bunny slippers? Nope. Does it matter if the clerk at my local print shop chose to bathe this morning? Sadly, yes. Could Bill Clinton... bad example. Nevertheless, if I make the effort to put clothes on - even jeans and a clean shirt (Not something from the "is this clean?" pile on the floor in the hall) my effort means more to me. ...That doesn't mean I won't endorse payment checks wearing my nightie. : )
I start work at 5.45 am and my 3
month old son sleeps in our room so
my outfit for the day tends to be
whatever is easiest to find in the
dark!
My "work" uniform consists primarily of jeans in the winter and shorts in the summer. These are comfortable and the low budget clothes allow me to stockpile nicer clothes in my closet for when I want to go out or meet with clients!
I typically choose something nice but comfortable. Jeans and a wool jacket (blazer) or knit pleated dress slacks and sweaters. Comfortable casual/dress flat shoes. No high heels in this office.
I try to dress comfortable, yet still in clean, matching outfits. often jeans or "nice" casual leggins. I see some clients (Parents of the children I watch), so I want to be presentable.
