I have four solid blogs that I work with on a regular basis and another half dozen waiting in the wings to get going.

I also want a passive income and have read lots about people making major money off of their websites without having to be an e-commerce site. I have a simple goal, I want to make at $300 per month off of each established site by the end of the year. Even if I only get it from my first 4 then it's progress. I also figure, staggering the sites won't hurt anything. I would eventually like to have an even 12 all earning at least $300 a month each. Maybe, I'll get lucky and they'll bring in more.

You have solid ideas. I say, use them and do something that makes you happy. Even if your blogs only bring in a little money that's fewer boring sales articles you have to do. Just be reasonable in your income goals for your blogs and enjoy anything that comes in beyond them. By the way, my income goals are based on what it would take to replace my husband's income should he get hurt or worse.

It doesn't matter if you think the *topic* is oversaturated or not - look at the keywords... if you can find some decent keywords with low comp then how many sites/blogs there are out on the net on the same topic doesn't matter....own *those* kws and leave the saturated ones alone

also, blog or site - it doesn't matter... write 3 posts at 300 words each each week, use one of your kws in each post, post them the same days (and times) each week and see what happens - *if* you picked kws well, it will rise thru the serps - if not, backlink selectively (I could talk about backlinks f.o.r.e.v.e.r.)

you can monetize it with adsense or aff links or a combination of both.... some topics lend themselves better to one vs the other ....

oh, and I HATE writing for other people these days...have to, but don't have to like it

Great advice! Thanks! I was thinking about ways to monetize, and it seems the best ways to do so are to get subscribers and then slowly incorporate information products, affiliate products, etc... So I can see I've got my work cut out for me. But I'm getting a little more excited about getting started.

I got burned out writing 20 articles on the same topic for clients a couple of years ago. I started building passive income through blogging and other sources to make sure that I would not have to be in that position again.

It does not take a lot of cash to get hosting and domain names and you already know what you want to base your first blog around. I say get started and you will be happier
I like the look of your blogs. I have a question on layout, if you don't mind.

Is there a way to have static posts on the sites. For instances, on your toy site, could you permanently have the Barbie, Lego, and Oven remain on the front page in the top 3 spots?

I understand the importance of writing new content for SEO but I would rather it be on secondary pages.

Additionally, do you know if you could put the fresh SEO content on secondary pages (you have 5 page/categorizes at the top) and leave only 3 posts on the front?

I am looking to do a review style site and am trying to figure out how to create extra content and not have it be on my main page.

Thanks alot.

Thanks

If you are using Wordpress you can either have a static page or post to your home page.

If you want a static page, write up what you want and then publish the page. Then go into Settings and then Reading. You will see something that says front page display and then you simply check the box in front of static page and select the page you want displayed on the home page. This is probably easiest way to do it.

If you want a post to be on the home page and nothing else, then when you go to publish your post there is a box you can check that says "Stick this post to the front page." It is underneath Visibility in the top Publish box on the right hand side of post. Then you need to go back into Settings and then Reading and where it says how many blog posts you want shown on the front page, put 1. Then all the other blog posts will fall to the second page and won't show on the first.

Thanks for the answer TiffanyB.

I am checking out your site: passiveincomegoals.com.

If you dont mind saying, have you any positive experience with doing an Amazon affiliate.

I am looking to avoid Adsense, Adbrite, etc... and have been considering an Amazon affiliate site.
