Default Email from Interact Media Re: the Marketplace

I signed up as a writer with Interact media awhile back but never completed the testing process. Anyway, I just got an email from them this morning talking about their new "marketplace" concept that allows clients to "try writers out." They note that you shouldn't expect to get paid for the first thing you write for a client, because you're trying to "prove yourself" to them.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm really sick of this crap. I don't know of any other job where people expect you to work for free and be happy to do it!

WOW! I didn't get that email. I haven't written there in a while and definitely wouldn't write there for free. While they tend to have a lot of articles available in my "category," they're difficult to write and thus I'd expect to be paid for them. Of course, I'd expect to be paid nonetheless but I think you get my point there LOL

I received the same email. I'll probably just stick to writing there from the job board and direct orders. I'm not a fan of doing free samples. When I worked as a med. tech, I would never have done a free med. pass, so I don't think I should have to write for free either.

Got the email, and filed it away. Doing a freebie in hopes of landing a steady job paying a dollar a word? Yeah, I'd do that. One that pays five cents a word or less? No thanks. That's why I have samples.

I agree, it was bad enough that even though you could get through the editing process with ease, but then the client had the opportunity to reject the article altogether. That means that you may spend your time doing a good job and then you still don't get paid. The extra pay for being a higher level writer is certainly offset by that. I prefer to work for people who are more supportive of the writer.

I just read the email from IM. I sometimes write the titles in the home and garden section but I have found that the new clients tend to reject content quicker than repeat clients. I'm glad I don't rely on them as a main egg right now.
