I'm thinking of taking the Textbroker proofreading exam to get to level 5, I'm level 4 right now.
I was just wondering if anyone who's passed has any tips? I've been reviewing some AP Style guides, but if anyone here has specific study material they used for the test, it'd be greatly appreciated! |

Keep an eye out for spelling errors. The sentences have tons of such errors, and I saw many sentences that would have otherwise been correct had it not been for spelling.

The Textbroker test was easy for me. I passed it with flying colors, which is why I am now a Level 5.

Because you can actually view the test before taking it, printing it out will help tremendously. Peruse it and study it for a couple of days, and look up any uncertainties on the web for specific AP rules and guidelines. Textbroker is OK with this, as they want to see how diligent one is concerning taking time to research, learn, and apply the AP rules to their writing.
There are even posts around the web that test takers have asked about the specific questions on this test in efforts to discover what they got wrong because a few of them are quite tricky. I passed it a few months back by taking time to look everything up. It helps tremendously to use all potential access to AP guidelines in order to pass. Good Luck! |

Do you have to request a bump to level 5? I passed the proofreading test, but I haven't actually written anything for textbroker in over a year.

I tried doing that (printing off & double checking with references) but when I went back to actually do the test? It was completely different! I wished I had done the first one because it was sooooo much easier than the second one.

I'm glad that I was already a 5 before that test went into effect.

do you ahve to be a level 4 to take the test? I admit I am finding it difficult to get stuff interesting enough to write at level 3 to justify the poor pricing. I couldn't find the test anywhere.

I don't blame you, though, because most of the level 3 articles are a waste of time. However, if you really want to get to level 4, all you need is five articles graded as a 4. |
