Default Reeling From DS Loss

I know the whole DS article shortage is probably old news, but I haven't been here in a while, so please forgive me. But how is everyone else making up for this shortage? I went from writing about 30 to 35 articles a week for two years w/ them to one or two. My income is basically nothing, and I send out a ton of resumes a day, but I'm thinking all the other DS writers are too, so I feel the chances of getting hired are slim. Does anyone have any suggestions? They are GREATLY needed.

Thanks

check out my post on WriterAccess. I am really happy over there and on track to make $400 this month from them. It's not as "easy" to grab articles as DS was but I am really enjoying it.

They were definitely my biggest egg, but luckily I got into About.com a few months before the DS implosion, as well as picking up a really good client. That doesn't make up my DS income 100% but it's close. I got the private client via a posting here, so definitely watch for opportunities on the board.

DS pulling the rug out from under their writers has hurt a lot of people and I am so sorry for what you are going through.

Here is a link that may be helpful (DS is listed on it but just ignore it).

Master Content Mill List

You can also check out a site called "Freelance Writing Gigs" and there is a blog called NoJobForMom which is helpful to writers.

Best of luck to all of you, I really hope you can find a new writing egg soon!

The signs had been there since mid-2011: the steady decrease in titles, the closure of the revshare program, the WDP and firing of many writers, and the elusiveness of TPTB (and their resistance to promptly respond to our questions). Also, the sudden closure of the WCP made me wary about DS's future. I'm not sure why anyone was surprised about what eventually happened. I saw it coming for months, but when someone mentioned something on the forums, others kept saying that it was just a phase. I wanted to believe that it was just a phase, but phases don't usually last that long.

DS was good while it lasted, but as we all know, all good things must come to an end.

Ladies, thanks so much for all of your help and kind words. I didn't notice many changes until October or so, but I wrote mainly for Type F and we had a steady influx of titles until about December. I guess I was naive and thought it was a phase too. But I've learned my lesson the hard way. Hopefully I can continue freelancing, but I'm thankful for the opportunity and experience either way.

The writing was definitely on the wall about mid-year, but quite frankly they lasted at least a year longer than I thought they would. The opportunities are still out there, but it's a lot more competitive now because of all the displaced writers.

Some people here have good success with Craigslist but I haven't even gotten a response from the last dozen or so ads I responded to. You have to be very careful there, too, since probably more than half the ads are scams.
