Default Am I The Only Run?

Sometimes when I have been working I will get very bad migraines that makes my vision very blurry to the point sometimes I can hardly see at all. One of my eyes will be pounding while the other is perfectly fine. I have a prescription from the doctors but that is something that is starting not to work anymore. Does anyone feel terrible migraines from being on the computer a lot? How do you deal with it?

Sorry about the errors in the title I am experiencing this right now.

I though chiropractors dealt with your back?

Definitely worth trying a chiro -- spinal misalignments and muscle tension can lead to migraines. Chiro can actually help with a lot of disorders that seem like they'd be unrelated to backs.

I used to suffer quite a bit from migraine-like cluster headaches, and they went away when I pretty much eliminated grains from my diet, so that might be something else to consider.

ok let me prefice this by saying I am a HUGE proponent of chiropractic care. I have done a lot of research about it and would recommend it to anyone, provided you find a good one (not all are good).

The thing about hte back is, all of the nerves of the body originate from the spinal column. when it is out of alignment, the nerves cannot communicate properly. The result is pain and even sometimes sickness, but not necessarily just in the back. For headaches, the neck is often the prime culprit. Before I started going to the chiropractor I would get such strong headaches when the weather changed I could hardly function. Now, the only time I get one is if I go too long without caffeine (they can't cure addiction ). Getting my neck in alignment fixed my headaches.

Some people actually believe all sickness originates from spinal alignment issues. I do not necessarily believe this strongly and we absolutely go to the "regular" doctor for problems like strep throat, ear infections, etc. But, if we are just feeling icky, often a trip to the chiropractor is able ot help our immune system get back on track and do its job.

Case in point, my now five-year-old when she was 2 and 3 got pneumonia regularly. We were on track to end up diagnosed with asthma. That would not be unusual since she was premature and daddy has asthma, but I wanted to research natural ways to boost her immune system and help prevent her colds from turning into pneumonia. We were able to find a good local chiropractor instead of the one we were driving an hour to visit who also took our insurance, so we were able to go more frequently. Since we made that switch, she has not gotten pneumonia, even though she has hnad some colds as all kids do. I attribute that to her better functioning respiratory and immune systems due to having her back in alignment.

Also, holistic chiropractors, like mine, can adjust other areas of the body. When I am pregnant I tend to get carpel tunnel from the swelling in my hands. While the chiropractor cannot "cure" that because the swelling is there no matter what, she provides some relief through adjusting my wrists.

Ok, I guess that's enough "preaching" for now. can you tell I really believe in chiros? LOL

I know it sounds silly, but have you tried wearing sunglasses while using your computer? I am very sensitive to lights and this has helped me in the past. It also helps me to turn the brightness setting down a bit.

Can you turn down the brightness of your computer screen?
Can you turn off overhead lights and use a lamp with ambient light instead?
Can you get a glare screen for your monitor?

(I use all these things because my eyes were getting exhausted. I also do eye exercises and eye massages periodically throughout the day).

Finally, have you had your blood pressure tested?

I don't get migraines, but when I'm on the computer a lot, my neck and shoulders get so tense that it is excruciating.

I'll add my two cents about chiropractors - they can be a great help for various conditions.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am definitely going to research some chiropractors in my area to see who is recommended.

I haven't had my blood pressure checked since after the baby. During my pregnancy my blood pressure was high which lead to migraines but after the baby came it went back to normal.

Hmm. I don't eat to many grains so I don't think that could be a problem.

Check out F.lux: software to make your life better

It is a free program that changes the color temperature of your monitor based on the time of day. It has done wonders for my eye strain and let to reduced frequency in my minor headaches. Migraines are a different box of rocks, but thought it might help. It's especially great if you are the type to write during the evening as it will slowly transition from 'cool' to 'warm' without you really noticing...
