Default For Those With Their Own Sites

Did you use any tools/books/sites to learn how to set them up to generate a profit? If so, which ones?

It is possible to make a decent monthly income from having your own sites/blogs?

I started one one blog years ago that earned some $$ through Adsense, and it's still pulling in income even though I don't update it regularly anymore (although I'm starting back up). I just started two new blogs, primarily as a vehicle to promote two (and eventually more) of my ebooks, but I have Adsense on them too, and I'm hoping to get some income from the ads. They're still very new, so it's going to take some time to build up the readership, but I'm a fast writer and know the topics very well, so it doesn't add much time to my day to toss out an article on each.

If you don't mind me asking, about how much money did the blog pull in with Adsense when you were updating it regularly? I am thinking of starting a blog as well, but I am wondering if it is worth the work.

Getting the answer to that really isn't going to help you. How much you make will depend on your niche and your marketing abilities. Whether or not it's "worth it" also depends. If you want to make a quick buck then probably not. But if you have a solid plan and some patience then yes.

P.S. "I will just throw up some content and adsense and hope for the best" is not a solid plan.

Wow, that was a very snarky response. You have no idea what my plan is, and no, it is not "just throw up some content and adsense and hope for the best."

I have never been rude to anyone on this forum and do not appreciate rudeness. Maybe you are having a bad day, but don't make accusations when you know nothing about me or my plan.

No, it wasn't snarky, it was direct. Now that may have come off as rude but that wasn't my intention.

It's nothing to get emotional about, you can take the advice or leave it, it's okay. And the P.S. wasn't directed to you specifically. I added that as a tip for anyone reading this forum.

The thing is, everything is changing even as we speak. One of the gals here earned Google seniority at least that's what it sounds like. For people just getting started, you have the Google sandbox, Panda Slap & now what's new for 2012 is Google's social search which is their way of saying "we won't give you rankings if your site is not popular". So it's a long haul for a new blogger and yes, you can make TONS of money. I have a freind who makes $40K each MONTH. My friend has only been online for 3 years. Books, no there won't be any because everything is changing so fast. Generating traffic to your site is different today if you are a brand new blog. You need TONS of backlinks to your site so you need to get your articles out EVERYWHERE and comment like a crazy woman on other's blogs etc. I have seen people get their traffic up in 30 days to over 1k BUT they had a reader list from other blogs. Invest in some current SEO courses. You want to make sure that you set your blog up so it is SEO savvy in the first place. GEt the All-in-one SEO plug in and SEO presser is really nice. Heck I could go on and on. HTH even a little.

As you've already seen, blogging isn't easy and it's not a quick way to riches. It's a lot of hard work and most people bale before they even get close. It's already been mentioned that things are changing fast and you have to work like a fiend. But if you really want to to make it work, you can.

There are loads of gurus out there waiting to take your money. Before you start buying books or classes, try to find some free sources that you can trust. I like Pat Flynn's Smart Passive Income website. He's about ten steps in front of all the rest of us, but his story is interesting. He was laid off and had to create an income. And boy, did he! You can spend days (maybe even weeks) reading his old posts, but I think you'll learn a lot. And while he's selling a few products, you don't have to buy them to take advantage of his expertise.

Good luck on whichever road you take.

No, it was actually pretty snarky. Especially from a brand new poster.

Heh...Snarky...

Snarky and rudeness seem to be getting more common around here these days.
