Default How to Post Writing Work on WAHM

Do you think we should compile a loose guideline for writing work posts on the forum for sticky? It may be to everyone's benefit if we had a list of things we're looking for as writers.

For example: rate of pay, topic, turnaround expectation

sounds like a good idea to me.
I also presented the idea of having "mini-resumes" awhile back.

I think both ideas would save people a lot of time, & more could get accomplished.

I think it's a great idea. I am a member of some other forums and many of them have a standard format for "help wanted" postings.

What I've seen is something like this:

Company Name or Contact Name
Brief Description of the job (for us it would include what type of articles, word count, deadlines, etc)
Pay rate
Special requirements
When the job would start and stop
Contact details

It's worked on other boards. I see a lot of postings lately along the lines of someone needing writers but they don't say what type of articles, pay, etc. As if we can just pick up any article and churn it out.

Guidelines would definitely be helpful. I think they'd be good for both the job posters and those of us who are always on the lookout for an opportunity.

That's one of the things I really love about this forum. Besides the friendship and support, I've also picked up a couple of gigs here.

Any more suggestions on what should be in the post?

Other than what I already posted I can't think of any.

The only problem I see is that some of the posters don't listen. One recently was asked by several people for how much the payment per article was, what types of articles they were looking for, etc and they still gave a vague answer and didn't really say much of anything about price or length of articles.

A sticky thread might be nice, with the posting rules listed in the first post.

But what about clients who want writers to send them their rates?

If I was looking for writers here I would not put the pay either. Maybe a range, but I'd rather ask the writers what their rates are. Of course, the rates will depend on the types of work that needs done, so that should be given, or at least a vague idea. I don't think it should be required for them to post a certain way though. If they choose to be vague about all aspects of the work then they are choosing to be bombarded with PM's full of questions. Perhaps it should be approached from the other angle. Maybe a sticky thread with the writers information, what types of articles each writer does, how much they charge, etc. Then the ones looking to hire can go through and ask the writer directly if they see someone who is a great fit for them.

That's a great idea too! Doesn't the WF have something like that?

The writers could update their mini-resume as their availability changes, or the types of articles they will write changes. BUT the problem I see with this is how the thread will play out. It's not fair that the first few people of the thread will get the most looks. See what I mean? So to do it fairly, I have no idea... unless there is a separate sub-folder created that will allow writers to place threads that they are available for work. ? And maybe another sub-folder for people looking to hire. ?
