I don't think so...it is so competitive out there for writing work that I think a person would be crazy to ruin their reputation to take a few dollars off someone. I mean leaving out the ethics of stealing from someone.

One way is to stress that all rights are transferred with payment only. You still might get stiffed, but you will have recourse to sell the articles you write elsewhere. I make it clear that after a certain amount of time I will sell my work elsewhere. So far I have always been paid, even if sometimes, late.
