There are threads at the top of the forum on finding work.

Sadly, there is an extremely difficult time to get into freelance writing. Many of the content mill sites that were great places to start have stopped (or plan to stop) producing written content, and the few that are still functioning are inundated with writers fighting for scraps.

Search for the forum for ideas on finding private clients, and if you need experience and want to produces samples that may earn a little, search for revenue share sites.

A few things in general is that you may want to create a writing portfolio site to showcase your experience and work.

Have you tried signing up as a freelance writer on Odesk? You can also start off by writing for Yahoo Contributer Network, Demand Studios or About.com to start generating some income as a freelance writer.

Demand Studios is pretty barren of work right now, although it was my bread & butter for a long time.

Be aware that About.com has a rigorous prep period if you even get allowed into it after you submit your application. The wait can take a few months. I know because I'm a guide there and just started this past summer. It's great if you can get in there, though. I'm loving it.

About.com is DEFINITELY no place for a newbie to try and start out at.
