This made me laugh out loud.
Your friend must have missed the section about getting testimonials for products and services. Basically, if a customer gives feedback, you rewrite the testimonial and then send it to the customer asking for permission to use the revised version for marketing purposes.
The member's area of the site offers peer-to-peer reviews and feedback, but I have never used it. I guess it is similar to this forum and WF where someone asks for feedback and he gets a variety of opinions,

It's okay. I was trying not to laugh reading his site, even though I felt like a jerk. lol
Yess. I think he was trying a little too hard, and ended up doing it all wrong. He also had example sales letters for samples. That's a good thing. They were actually well written, but sort of off topic in regards to what he was trying to sell.
For instance, in the letter he wrote to try and sell the AWAI course, he wrote about the move west and the gold rush, etc... A metaphor for writers going for the gold. I get it. Maybe they even made you guys write about that? I really don't know.
Anyway, his letter was full of graphic details about kids getting crushed beneath wagon wheels and people starving to death. Just, pages all this crazy horrific stuff. Then suddenly he switches gears and starts talking about AWAI. Out of nowhere. It read like a novel that was suddenly interrupted by a commercial.
He asked for my advice on finding clients. I sent him a quick email on how I go about it (although I would have assumed a course on direct response copywriting should offer some insight into direct marketing...). He wrote back telling me that I needed to learn the copywriting basics, and said he would be happy to teach me.
Interesting guy.
