Default Is there such as thing as a UK Dictionary?

Hi all,

I was hired for a company in the UK, and I have my first assignment due within 48 hours. However, I need to word the assignment as if I was from the UK, or more easily put I need to write the article so that people in the UK are able to understand our terminology hence a UK dictionary. Does anyone have any tips or websites that can help me out? I have researched a little, and found one site, but it is currently in the "beta" phase, and much similar to wikipedia in that people can add or delete information. In that sense I do not want to use that site in case it is not reputable. TIA

I have written for UK clients and most of the time they just need you to use UK spelling. 'Color' is US English would be 'Colour' in UK and other such words are ..glamor/glamour, specialize/specialise etc. If it is just that then you just set your document to UK spelling and when you do spell check it will prompt you to change to UK English.

If you use MS Word, when you do the spell check change the language to British English. Also, a few punctuation rules are different, like putting the period after the quotation mark.

I've never changed a Word program, can you tell me how to get the UK English (or any other language) on it? I've had classes on Word long ago, but that was never covered.

While in word go to Tools-Language-Set Language.

These are all good tips.

This post highlights one important point -- don't automatically assume that your client wants U.S. English.

If you don't where your client is located, you may have to ask which they prefer.
