Question Nanowrimo?

Is anyone else participating in NANOWRIMO this year? This will be my second year. Hopefully I'll do better this year than I did last year. I got nowhere near the 50,000 words last year.

If you don't know what it is, NANOWRIMO is National Novel Writing Month, which is November. The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. Check out their website at National Novel Writing Month for more info.

I'm thinking about doing it. I tried it about five years ago and quit about halfway through. These days, writing an extra 1,667 words per day hardly seems like anything, so I might give it a go ;-)

I saw a guy on Jeopardy who participates in this. I may try it.

I saw that guy, too! A couple of weeks ago, right? I was wondering if he was talking about the same thing. What are the benefits of doing it? Purley motivation?

Yeah, it was a few weeks ago. I think he said that it wasn't really about quality but quantity. So I'm guessing it's more motivational.

I did it two years ago, planned to do it last year but didn't manage it, and couldn't even plan to do it this year (though I'd love to). I wish you all very well with it and look forward to seeing plenty of updates: will be watching the thread with great interest!

I'm in! I found out about it half-way through last year, so I missed my chance. I signed up yesterday, so I am all set to get started on the 1st.

It's purely motivational. And he's right, it's more about quantity than quality. Just write ~ don't edit or proofread. This is more of a first draft exercise.

There are local forums you can join. Also, depending on where you are located, there might be writing events/sessions/brainstorms you can attend with others from your area who are doing NaNoWriMo too. There are also word count badges you can put on your blog or website to let others know you are participating. It's great motivation to write if you know others are monitoring your progress!

Good luck to everyone who is participating!
