Actually, that doesn't sound bad for blogging. When I type about something I'm interested in, I can type 300 words in less than 10 minutes. Of course it all depends on what type of writing is expected - researched or not. I think something happened with Families.com though, that made a bunch of their first wave of bloggers quit. I forget what it was, though.

Maybe if they were better with their finances, they wouldn't need to charge writers a subscription fee.

I have written a couple of articles for them but did not receive the notice that they were charging a fee now. There is no way I'm paying them a fee and no way I would write for them again even if they stopped charging fees.

I have learned my lesson, and we are all selling ourselves short. We wanted to get our "foot in the door" and agreed to take menial pay. We have justified it over and over by averaging how many words/articles we can type in an hour.

I have learned that most of this has been a distraction from my "passion" for the written word.

Though it is hard to turn away from "low pay" when you need to pay the bills, I would challenge all of us, that even if we continue with low paying and degrading jobs, to at least work on ONE PIECE every week, that is from our hearts, not full of keyword percentages and Google friendly phrases, and be ready to submit them to "higher paying markets" whether that is magazines, newspaper, or a novel that is to be submitted for publication.

My biggest fear for all of us, is that we will become complacent and limit ourselves to writing SEO content and Forum Blogs for a buck, and deny the truly creative writer that lurks within, who is screaming to be released.

Google adsense has nothing to offer any of us that can ever replace the honest gift of the written word that has been given to each of us.

Not only are we selling ourselves short, for bill money, but we are killing our own creativity.

Pay someone money to "let me write cheap keyword content articles?"

That is the lowest insult that we as writers can inflict upon ourselves!

So,
I challenge you, no matter what you do with writing to pay the bills, to make sure that you work on at least ONE PIECE of quality, heart felt, creative writing so that you do not let the gift you were given dry up and become a dead pile of unused words decaying underneath a heap of Internet "friendly" articles.

Just my 2cents worth,

Charisse

Did you notice the glaring grammatical problem in that A&C letter? He said authors were making in "access" of 200 dollars a month!!

LOL

Maybe we shouldsend it back to him for a revision.

BTW- I know some of you feel a certain way about cheap content writing, but I'm pulling in 15-20/article at Associated Content now and I only churn out about 400 words each. Yes, I'm a hack, but who cares? An hour or two with AC a night pays my mortgage!

Charisse,

That is the best two centsworth so much more than just two cents. I've been writing SEO for $15, and that's not too bad, but I got invited to submit an article to a magazine and have been putting it off. Can you believe that? I also got a chance to ghostwrite a book and put that off too.

I applied for lifetips and I think it's time I sent something over to Associated Content for $20.

Charisse,

You are so, so right. I have been putting off submitting high-paying work just like Leisa. What is wrong with us? lol

Thanks for waking us up!

I'm so happy I came to this board today, just to see what was going on in the writing world. I went from being enlightened on the A&C issue (and talked out of it) to inspired to write quality more often! Great thread...

This is exactly why I started WritersRemember.com. It's an encouraging site for writers that, and seeks to help them remember & rekindle their passion for writing. I'm glad to know I'm not alone in these thoughts!

Best,
