I emailed them with questions because I am one of those infrequent writers. I always gave them good articles which they acknowledged. I also never missed a deadline. I pulled a topic yesterday for 1,000 words and they asked me to get it in early and I did that to help them out. They sent this comment after I sent that article in early.

"Great thanks for this much appreciated!!"

Then I get this new email about the fees.

I sent a question asking if a person could opt in for a month and then take a month off. I expected a dialogue back and forth. Instead they locked me out of their system and sent me this email:
I understand how you feel as we all have differing circumstances. I appreciate your work as I do all our good writers but we are moving onto another level and cleaning out the not too sincere writers who were beginning to spoil it for the genuine writers. I hope you understand our problems and would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your patronage and wish you all the best in your future endeavours, hopefully they are extremely prosperous.

Regards
JohnT

So by following their guidelines to the letter, turning in good work on time, I am locked out of their system without even asking me if I choose to pay the fee. Wow. Once, they overpaid me and I immediately notified them. They then asked that I complete 4 articles to make up for the overpay which I did within a couple of hours. I feel I gave more than I got.

What it all comes down to is how do you want to be treated? Do you want to work for pennies or do you want to search out the things that pay better? After all, are you worth $10-15 anhour or more? I am and my regular writing job pays me $15 an hour. I worked hard to find it and I am sure we all can find better paying jobs.

Good luck to you all. If you choose to work with A&C, expect to get chided a lot, threatened with getting kicked off, asked to turn in articles ahead of deadlines, see a lot of !!!!!!!!, and then get shut down with no warning. It happened to homesheart and now it happened to me. Seems like a clear pattern. If they keep it up, they won't have anyone left to write for them.

LOL!!

Geez, no wonder, I've been waffling on this one.

Wow. I wonder if they're going to accomplish the opposite of what they're trying to do, by pushing away the "serious" writers who don't appreciate being treated like that. Seems likely!

And there are people who are paying for this abuse?

Well, shoot man, I was thinking about this ... thinking maybe it would be worth $10, even though I find that a very odd way to to business, but after reading all the experiences here, I am running as fast as I can toward better work -- nobody has a right to run a "business" this way.

That kills me that they say they have 120 writers waiting for openings. I just sent in my application this week and was accepted immediately and my experience isn't that extensive. I'm kind of glad they're charging membership fees now so that I don't have to waste any time with them. Has anyone had a good experience with them?

And Elance doesn't charge that much. It's only like $12 a month, or $75 month a quarter if you want to be a select member, which you can easily make back. Just trying to make their fee not sound so bad I guess?

Wow,

I feel totally absolved of any guilt on my part with my previous articles and content encounter!

If it is any comfort, just know that they treated me like dirt too. LOL,

That's what I was thinking. I applied with them a couple of weeks ago and got the pay scale. It's low, but I was assuming the articles required little work. They emailed me today basically explaining the fee. I'm going to email them back and explain that writers do not pay for the privilege to work for someone. They are not a bid site, so the comparison to Elance is bogus.

I found this an odd trend with online companies - that they think people should pay to apply. I once responded to an ad, and the person wrote back saying that it was $5 for the mailed application to cover their costs. I'm sorry, but those costs are part of doing business, as are PayPal fees, admin costs, etc!

Anyway, I will be turning them down. I don't need to pay to work for someone else. I just need to start my own website - stop sayingit and get on it.

If anyone is looking for work, Families.com is hiring bloggers. The pay isn't high but they treat you great. I am doing it mostly for fun. After training they pay $4 a blog. Minimums are 300 words at 5 days a week. My articles only take a few minutes, so it's extra change in my pockets.
