Well said Deb. The idea of a working writer is to be paid to write. Not to pay a fee to be able to do so.

I'm one of the writers that has been with them for two years and I can say it has been more than worth it. We can argue all day about the $10 fee (and it has been argued on this board over and over) but in the end that $10 investment (as I choose to look at it) nets me hundreds of dollars per month. To answer a couple of questions...you are not locked into anything...it is strictly month by month. The work at Articles and Content fluctuates; it may be very busy one month and not as busy the next month, but for the most part, there is a steady stream of work that more than justifies the $10 fee. I have paid bidding sites much more in the way of a percentage than what the $10 comes out to. For those for whom this doesn't seem an attractive offer, I understand but please don't try to convince the entire board that this is a "bad" deal as that just isn't the case at all and it simply isn't fair to the hardworking people that have posted the ad and been nothing but honest about how they work. Funny, but I just remembered that I originally joined A&C after one such battle on this board as my curiousity was piqued!

I signed up to work for them and in my opinion it wasn't worth it. I found the 2000 word articles but if my memory serves correctly, the pay out was less than $20 and the other smaller articles had rewrites of 500/wd articles for around $2 the ones that were about 400/wds were snagged up quick and only paid around $8. I didn't think it was worth the investment. Right now I am in need of the money (don't worry I will be posting that I can help out anyone this week really soon) and I would probably request around $8 for an article but not to pay $10 just to work with them and do it every month because I couldn't see a guarantee that I would find articles to write on every month.

But that is just MHO... I declined to renew the fee for the next month.

Thank you forthat gottaluv4. Those were the most important things I was concerned with. And apparently it sounds even more disappointing if they are advertising $23 but the payout may end up under $20.

Essentially that breaks down into four 500 word articles at $5 a piece not even. And it doesn't sound like the work is guaranteed. That is something to pay a "service" for.

I certainly don't hold it against them for looking for writers (in fact if they at least pay their writers they get a gold star in my book...long story for another post) and I don't judge or hold it against the writers who do work for them; as it is work. And I will be honest...I was doing $3 articles not long ago. However, that being said I still think we should share both sides as this is a place where a lot of people come for advice. Which in the New Year I am so greatful for.

Believe me, we should find out as much information about any employer as they would about us if they cared about their business. I've learned a few lessons and it is best to ask as many questions as possible.

BY guaranteed I mean that you aren't assigned to any article or number of articles, you log in and choose from the available articles. Sometimes I would see that there were only the 2000 word articles and the ones that need rewritten.

Thanks for the opportunity being offered. If there is enough work to make a couple hundred dollars a month, then I don't think the ten dollars is out of line. Many sites take a percentage of your sale up front. I think it all depends on how much you want to write per month and what's available.

I have to ask....

Why pay for work? And the idea of only $23 for a 2000 word article is just nonsense.

You can find all the work you want without paying for it, without paying a membership fee every month, and you can make a lot more than $23 for 2000 words.

Never pay to get work. Getting paid to write means you get paid, not you paying them.

I didn't want to start the same Articles and Content debate here, but if anyone is interested in discussing whether or not one should pay to work, I invite you to stop by Freelance Writing Jobs and participate in the discussion there.
