Everyone in this thread has given REALLY awesome advice, but I'd really like to stress the importance of guest posting.

Guest posting can help you build backlinks and a following much more quickly than you would on your own. Just check out the Alexa and Technorati rankings of the blogs you plan to target, because the better than rank the better the benefit to your blog.

Good luck!

Stephanie

I comment on other people's blogs to help promote my blog.

Also, knowing your keywords and using them, but not over using them, is important to bring in traffic from searches.

Promote on Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites.

Most of my traffic comes from Google searches, so keywording effectively will help a lot.

If you get stumped on what to blog about, try using Guest blogging: Looking for guest bloggers or guest post? Join MyBlogGuest! and have guest bloggers write articles for your blog for free! Its a Win/Win...they're helping you build content for your blog and the guest blogger is getting a link back to their blog. You should try that website out!

1. Add more content. Useful and informative articles. If you can not do it yourself, pay someone to do it for you.

2. Do guest posts on the other blogs. Write for other sites and link to your blog from them.

3. Create a FaceBook fan page and post the widget to your blog where people can "like" your site.

The best way to build a blog is to just do it. Start writing and promote your articles. Then tweet and facebook like your posts.

Add images and promote it via Pinterest. A good idea is to upload to Pinterest like this: 25% your own blog, 50% repinning, 25% new pins from other sites.

Offer to guest post for other blogs that have traffic. You can also comment with links to your site (as long as it is relevant).

Another idea is to piggy back off their traffic. If you see an article about 10 ways to build a blog, you can write 5 more ways to build your blog. Then link in the comments.

There are many ways. Just pick a couple and get started. You can always branch out later.
