Default Is Twitter really very effective for promotion?

I'm hearing the same kinds of things for Twitter that I used to hear about Digg. I tried Digg but never had much success with it. How has Twitter worked for you?

Hi,

I am fairly new to Twitter (about 6 months in) and I LOVE it!

I have found so many great connections there - it really is a great playground.

I have not tried monetizing anything I do there, yet!

Really, what I use Twitter for is to spread the word, or share the love, about other interesting blog posts or events or happenings, in addition to my own blog posts, etc.

I have approached it with a 'give first, then receive' attitude and it has worked in terms of sending traffic.

Yes, Twitter is effective for traffic and for networking. It takes time to build up a following of folks in your niche. Don't abuse your followers. Be a human and post real life things as well as links to your work (or whatever). Interact with people by answering questions, congratulating people, etc. Doing that goes a LONG way to building relationships.

Use hashtags for your niche. You will find yourself featured in different paper.li editions if you do. It also makes it easier for people to find you. Make sure your profile uses those keywords too.

Triberr - The Reach Multiplier | Triberr is a neat site for cooperating with a group of trusted bloggers to retweet each others' feeds. Look into it.

I've worked with a company on at Twitter party. It's a great way to earn income. Wish I could get more of those kinds of gigs. It's an intense 30 minutes, but good pay ($50 or more).

Thanks for the info. It does seem that like Digg, it takes time to really see results.

I have a new site and am new to Twitter too. I have to say that it has been very useful in driving targeted traffic to my blog. I have also been able to network and make connections with other bloggers and businesses in the same field.

I started out by following as many people/businesses as I could find that related to my interest or blog; a lot of them will follow you back in return. Start posting your tips/thoughts/posts, etc, once others see there is value in your tweets, they will retweet them for you!

It's easy and definitely worth a try. Good luck!

If you don't mind, can you explain what hashtags are? I'm not familiar with them. Also, I wanted to thank you for posting the information on Triberr and working on a Twitter party; I will definitely be looking into that!

hashtags are how you tag your tweets.
I am a homeschool blogger, so I try to always tag my tweets with #homeschool. That way if someone is also interested in homeschool, she can search for that tag and will find ME. Hopefully she follows me. Then I have a very targeted audience.

That's a great explanation, thank you! I was wondering what they were as well.

I have good success with twitter, the hash tag feature is cool and a good place to engage your followers of your other social networks in active conversation. for example say you would like to have a conversation about a current issue in the media with your social network. direct them to twitter a a certain time and ask them to use the # and a specified word. #xmasstocking and when they use this in a post it will come up with all the other posts using it. Just remember you will have no control over the content, and what others will say. so be sure to have good directing skills and friends in the conversation.
