I earn my living through online newsletters and Adsense but am trying to diversify. I am able to build simple websites, get them on Google on first page under specific keywords and get them some targeted traffic. They can then be monetized with Adsense or Clickbank, etc. No maintenance required. Do you think there is a market for this? I've been looking at some of the sites where websites are bought and sold, and they seem a little overwhelming. Most sites are bigger and badder than what I do.

Absolutely! Flippa.com is THE place to buy/sell websites. Good luck!

Thanks! I am eager to try this out.

I agree, Flippa is a great place to sell websites and domains.

If your site has any monthly income, then it will sell for a premium over at Flippa. Profitable, low maintenance sites are highly valued over there.

Have you thought about this in the offline market too?
You could (probably more easily) build a site to get traffic for local search terms or businesses and sell it for a higher profit to a local business owner. Especially if you prove yourself in the rankings before trying to sell it. For example, if you had dallasplumber.com and ranked it to number 1 in Google, how much do you think a Dallas plumber would pay for that? Figure out the keywords used to find a plumber in Dallas and see how many times they are searched. Rank for those. Then you can take those numbers to prospective buyers (search Dallas plumber in Google maps to find local plumbers and go through the list), saying how many visitors they could get. I'm not too familiar with Flippa, except hearing everyone recommend it, but I would think this offline method would produce a larger paycheck. And it might be less work since local terms tend to be easier to rank in search engines. Also, you could use this technique and instead of selling the domain, sell ads on the site to the local businesses. Or capture leads and sell those.

Using adsense is what I've recently started, and although inexperienced, I'm always open to hear new insights

However, my husband is a very good web programmer and made it so my site would only show Adsense on posts older than 2 weeks. This posts would mostly be seen by traffic from search engines and not my regular readers anymore. It was the best of both worlds. I removed them from common view, but still benefit from traffic that might not come back anyways so try and get as much money as I can from their visit.

Flippa is good for smaller/medium sized sites. If you have a bigger site with a serious amount of traffic / revenue, check out Latona's Website Brokerage - Established Websites for Sale.
You can also generate good revenue (probably more than adsense) if you build affiliate style sites and earn on CPAs/commissions. A lot of our own affiliates earn decent money doing this. Matt |

You don't have to wait and build it first before making money. By the way Matt, nice use of the username to get your site link in. That was clever.
