I wish to learn/brush up web design and wanted to know easier, affordable ways to do it. I did a course in web design(HTML, JS,CSS) from a local state college a few years back and really enjoyed it but never pursued a career in it. Wanted to find out if anyone can guide me on the right track..Any online courses or certifications that will help me.We have moved from the previous place and there are not really good state colleges here.

Hi there
I think the best way to go about this is to start by getting yourself the right software. Our web designer uses Adobe Dreamweaver but it's expensive! I've seen him using a programme called Coffee Cup as well which is a lot cheaper!! If you haven't done so already, I'd recommend getting a copy of this and just learning from trial and error. Dummies do a book on HTML which is supposed to be quite helpful! Fiona |

I need some more classes. Any ideas?

Sessions.edu offers accredited classes. You could also search for community colleges that offer classes; many may be online.

I think it really depends on how much time and money you are prepared to spend. If you're really serious about learning then you should find a training school even if you have to travel a bit to get there. The online courses I've seen are really expensive and I doubt the certifications are recognised everywhere (I don't know if that's important or not).

In today's market...I wouldn't suggest the old fashion static or HTML sites.
The easiest and fastest way to get a site up and running...even in as little as a day... is to go with WordPress. I recently helped a lady who knew nothing about websites, get her site up and live in one day. Then she made the edits and changes to give it the feel and design she wanted and in just a couple of weeks had a great looking site. Most of this you can do with little to no cost involved. But in most cases...you'll need to buy a domain...about $10 bucks per Year and get good reliable hosting for your website...another $10 a month... Building website have gotten really easy...and if you want to know more...contact me or check out some of the Free training at my site. Hope this helps you.

Jan -- some people do well learning these types of things on their own, whereas others appreciate the structure and guidance you can get from classes.
Here are some links that may help --- For some basics, you can review W3 Schools: W3Schools Online Web Tutorials WordPress is a really easy content management system - it is known for being a blogging platform, but it's very easy to use as regular website also: New To WordPress - Where to Start WordPress Codex There are many more free resources online. |

Wordpress, Buddypress and if you like the look of CSS style wordpress websites you can install a theme called Thesis for wordpress. Thesis gives you a ton of control over your webdesign in a easy to use admin control panel.
