Graphics programs are usually very expensive to buy. There is a free open source graphics program called GIMP that has pretty much all the features something like Photoshop has. You can buy a how to use books like Beginning GIMP: From Novice to Professional. It takes a lot of time to become really good at graphic design. It can help a lot to have someone who is good at it teach you, if you know anyone.
