Question Umm?

So I was chatting with one of my Facebook friends and she told me that someone joined her just to have the starter/consultant kit. Meaning that lady had no intentions of having a business but just paid for the kit to get all the stuff. Hmmm... Have you guys heard of this? This is a first for me.

Yes TJ: In direct sales we call them kit nappers.

Oh, lol. I've been in direct sales for bit but I didn't know there was a name for it. I guess I've never experienced it before. So then what do you? I guess you can't really do anything because then they'll just be inactive. That's weird in my opinion.

I think the most important thing to do when you realize you have a kitnapper on your team is not to waste your time with them. I burned too many hours trying to coach team members only to "get" that no matter what I did they weren't going to go anywhere with the business.

Lol I heard someone bought it to get the cute blow dryer lol. She said she get 4 sheets included plus the other stuff so it's like buying a blow dryer for $30. I thought it was crazy too lol. She might not be inactive just in case she gets a random order and they choose her as a consultant.

I never knew it was a name for it either.

I've seen that happen too, and as mentioned above, it's best not to waste time on them.
When someone joins your team, ask " What are your goals with this biz? Why did you join? " things like that. And by the answers, you can usually tell their intentions.

I guess it boils down to "working with the willing."

You can't really control that. Like mentioned above, just match your commitment to theirs. If they aren't giving you anything, just keep them on your email loop and let it go.

If someone mentions to me "can I just buy the kit" I basically tell them that our kit costs around $120 with shipping and tax . It is preselected items and contains business supplies. If they are looking for a good deal, host a party. With that same $120, they could purchase the exact items they want with the personalization that they want. They wouldn't be paying for business supplies they would never use.

Sometimes they see the light and sometimes they don't

Perfect response, Leanne. In fairness to the "kit nappers," I joined Norwex because I had a long wish list but no desire to do a party; I knew I'd recoup my fee in my first order. As time went on, however, I kept trying more products, and two years later got more serious about selling. Sometimes it may just take longer than you like for your downline to get in the game.

I have had many "kit nappers" turn into sellers. They start off loving the fact that they got this great deal on the kit. Once they receive the kit... they want more. I actually require all my "kit nappers" to do one party to purchase the kit. I will come and do the party. What they do after the party is up to them. I will either take the bookings or they can take them. I have seen it go both ways. Some of them will do the parties and then try to earn their kits for free. Some of them are so elated to have earned all of the hostess benefits from the party and the kit that they purchased they don't care.

I do make it my policy that they hold that grand opening party. I make it simple though that I come and do the party so they don't have to do anything but clean the room and have fun!.
