Default Parties & Weight Management

Hi Everyone!

I am a new Pure Romance Consultant and already need to loose 30 lbs (trying to go from a size 10 back to a 4/6). When I joined I didn't think too much about food, even though I have decided to do this full time. I have shadowed a few parties and am getting ready to host my first. The food was overwhelming and delicious. It was then I realized this may be a problem. I also don't think it's a coincidence that some of the most successful direct sellers tend to be the most heavy-set (some of the consultants I've met do 4-5 parties a week, and it shows).

Besides eating something before I head out to my parties, does anyone have any suggestions about making sure I don't make my current weight problem worse?

PS - I tried using phentermine for my weight loss, but it just exacerbated my migraines. So while I am willing to consider an appetite suppressant, it has to be safe.

Caroline

Hi Caroline,

When you start hosting your own parties, you can set them up to your preference. I was taught in my early years of direct selling/party planning that I was there to offer a service, and not to get too involved with eating and socializing. I would suggest that you eat a healthy meal before at home before you leave for the party. Hopefully you will be so busy doing your show, answering questions, taking orders, etc. that you won't have time to worry about eating. So, don't make eating the focus or purpose of your shows. Also encourage your host to prepare something very simple. A few snacks and beverages. There is no need to prepare a buffet line. This type of food line can also discourage future host, if they think they have to prepare the same type of setup. Good luck.

I think making sure you aren't hungry when you go to each party is a great first step.

I don't think any hostess would be offended if you explained why you weren't eating. Make it a part of her hostess coaching and let her know up front that you are dieting and need her help to make sure you don't graze at the table. If she knows ahead of time she should be less inclined to push food on you.

Heck, you could even make a game out of it. Tell your host something like "I will give you free shipping on your order (or whatever) if you don't let me eat".

If party guests try to get you to eat, just let them know that you want to focus all of your attention on them, and that you will grab something before you leave. Since you are likely to be the last one there, they won't know if you did or didn't hit the food table.

Good luck with your weight loss!

Default Thanks

You know the sad thing was - it was just fruit and melted chocolate and melted cheese. I had three plates. THREE. Small ones, but three none the lest. And I could have easily gone up for more.

I hadn't ever thought of the gaining weight part of party plans. I'm kind of shy when it comes to eating in front of people, so I never eat the snacks, but I could see how that could become an issue.

Thanks for bringing up the topic, I'm going to discuss this with my team at our next meeting .

I very rarely ever eat when I am doing a party. I also do not tend to have a drink beyond water. I just tell them that I ate already before I came and that I am not hungry. I've never had an issue

I would def reccomend eating something healthy with fiber before you go so that you feel full and really focus on mingling not near the food. I'm starting a new 90 Day Health Challenge on Jan 2 and one of the products I'm using is a natural appetite suppresant. I dropped all my baby weight in 8 weeks and my good friend lost 42lbs and 5 pant sizes on her Challenge .

Thumbs up Keeping the Weight Off

You could hostess coach and just mention having a small healthy snack available for people.

You could take a healthy snack with you.

Another idea is to get your eating straight when you're not doing parties so that when you do have a party you can indulge a bit. That's pretty much my strategy. During the week when I'm in my normal routine I just use my system. On weekends, outings, or special occasions I allow my self to indulge a bit because I know I will be back on track again for most of the week.

Hi Caroline, I can relate with what your saying I went to a PR party a while back at a friends house and I couldn't believe how much food that she had there of course at that time I wasn't really on a health kick like I am now after reading your post I wonder if a lot of people who are having PR party's do this? The party's are a lot of fun!!

Any who I would stay away from any kind of soda's or fruit juices they are packed with sugar that alone can make you retain water and make you gain weight. If your going to eat something while your there it would be better if you eat veggies or fruits if they have any with out the chocolate but sometimes it's hard don't beat yourself up over it, it happens. Good luck with finding the right product there are many to chose from.

Linda

Same here. I sometimes have a small snack before I leave the house but I actually eat less on party nights so it's a good thing for me.

I agree with some of the above posters, just let your host know (if they ask - most of mine never do) that it's an "occupational hazzard" to eat at every party you do, thanks for understanding and helping your waistline. Said in a fun and playful manner they usually laugh and say OK.
Good Luck!
