I'm looking at a couple of companies. One carries health & wellness products which offer function and take care of different ailments, but aren't necessarily "fun". The other carries body products that do offer skin loving ingredients and benefits, have whimsical packaging and names, but aren't really used to better a person's health and well being. Which do you think would sell better?

Hi Danielle,
Having sold skin care/spa products in the past I say whichever ones you love the most. Try both of the product lines, look at the price points, look at the fun vs. function thing, etc. If you don't LOVE everything about the line/company you choose to represent it will come accross and people won't likely buy much from you. If you love the products and rave about them because you truely adore them and want to share them with everyone you meet because you can't imagine them living with out them- I think you could be very successful with either. It's two different markets, which do you feel better about using and selling. I'm sure reps from each company are doing well and are great companies. You just have to decide which is the best company for you. I know that doesn't give you a yes/no answer but there's my 2 cents. Best wishes on your choice and your soon to be new business. ![]() Amanda

I think they both do well. It is about how you promote the product. If you love one over the other, than that will make your decision. People see your excitement and they want it too

I have to agree with the others. I would say to first find the company or companies (who's to say you can only pick one?) that you love the products and would use. See which ones will work best for you. Think about how you can find others to share the products with and what the company requirements are for sharing; online, parties, etc. Personally, I have looked for awhile and have decided on 2 companies that will complement each other and are products I am passionate about and use daily! Good luck in your search. You will find many great companies on wahm to look through and also online. Be sure you research and make sure you're not missing "the one" before you commit. You'll know it when you find it!

Sometimes when you take care of function, fun follows, just saying. Guess it's the nurse in me talking, as well as that feeling seems to work for me ~ fun follows function~

I have always stayed at home with my kids and tried my hand at various direct sales over the years. There are so many opportunities out there and it is so hard to choose which one is the best for you and your family. I have found that there are a few key things to look for in a business opportunity:
1. you have to love the product : if you don't wear or love jewelry than you will have trouble sharing it with others . The direct sales that I have been in, I have always loved their products and still do use the products even if I don't sell them anymore. Now with Scentsy I love my home to smell good, my family loves to be home(even our 17 and 15 year olds) and I want it to be inviting and comfy and smelling good! 2. the leadership at the head of the company has to have the same morals and values that I have. The owners of Scentsy, Heidi and Orville Thompson believe in giving and have incorporated that into the business in varying ways including always having a charitable cause product in all of their catalogs where all the proceeds go to the charity. 3. Flexibility with the requirements to stay active. Being a Mom to 3 and a Wife along with the many other hats I wear, my life is not always predictable and my schedule is always changing . A normal job would not let me be able to adjust my schedule to my family's to make sure I am there for them. With Scentsy's great new policy of any size order( from September to December) to stay active which takes all the pressure off to enjoy sharing Scentsy without the added pressure. 4. No added extra costs to hosting parties : I have been with other direct sales where the hostess rewards would actually come out of my profits, With Scentsy they take care of it all with no extra costs out of our pockets. Scentsy also has a great hostess plan that spoils the hostess, they end up sharing with all their friends how much they received for hostessing and booking more parties for you. 5. Low start up cost with everything you need to start with: Other direct sales have low start up costs but do not supply you with everything you need to start your business so you end up spending a lot more just to get started. Scentsy's started kit does come with everything you need to start(the list is below) and it only costs $99!! I joined Scentsy in April of 2011 because I loved the warmers and scents and wanted to just have some fun with it. What started out as some fun has turned into a business that keeps growing! With Scentsy I don't sell the product I just share either a catalog, demo warmer or sample and that is all it takes, they are hooked. My customers and hostesses keep helping me share Scentsy and they have been telling everyone and directing them my way. With Scentsy's great new policy of any size order( from September to December) to stay active which takes all the pressure off to enjoy sharing Scentsy without the added pressure. Sorry for the long post but wanted to share this with you!

I think function would be more important and then you make it fun. I know when I speak I include funny comments that get my clients involved and laughing. Sometimes it is a joke about myself using a certain product or even putting the Relaxation Remedies to Roll on a stressed out co-worker/husband/boss etc. when they don't know it. You can always incorporate fun! That way as they learn about the products that are functional and make their lives better, they are also excited and have a good time. As already mentioned, if you love the products then the fun will follow.
NYR's products are functional but can also be fun. Maybe you just need to look at each company and their products and decided which one can best fit BOTH. Good luck in your decision!
