Default Does anyone here have a '9-5'

Hi,
Is there anyone here who does direct sales, and also has a '9-5'? If you are not, do you know anyone else who is doing it and has found success?

How do you manage being at work all day, doing parties in the evening, and maintaining home and family?

Is it tiring to do a party after a full day of work?

How do you manage those day to day tasks like follow up phone calls, sending packets, etc.

Do you miss out on doing daytime events like office parties, mom events, etc?

Thanks

Normally I do! I'm a teacher but currently on maternity leave right now. I find that, ironically, doing parties actually refreshes and energizes me. I'll even do weeknight parties after a full day of teaching and I come home on a major high that lasts into the next day. I think the social benefits outweighs the time and effort I put in. The phone calls, manangerial stuff can be a little harder to get done but I find the key is to schedule it in if necessary. I personally love selling with Madison though so for me, my business is life and it never feels like additional work. I'm just doing something I enjoy!

I try to schedule my parties on weekends so that I have more energy and ambition to do them.

I don't have a family, its just me so it is not that difficult and I have treated myself to a cleaner in the last year, mainly due to being lazy and having no desire to clean myself.

I do quite a bit of my business through email which is great. You can do it as you have the energy or ambition. When I do make calls, I just have to set a time and gear myself up for it. I spent a lot of time on the phone at work which I think is part of why I don't like calls at night, I've been on the phone already way too much.

I don't miss out on any events due to my direct sales business as I would just schedule parties around it if need be but I have not had to worry about that as once I go home, I dont' have any work committments or issues until the next day.

I do! Actually my day job is quite demanding and involves travel. Since I'm my own boss at my party plan business, and only work that on my schedule, it works out just great! I find the energy I get from my parties to be fun and such a nice complement to the focus I must maintain at my day job.

The most challenging aspect is finding time to make calls. I just have to stay organized and schedule time for it, so it gets done. It won't happen if I don't!

I have a part-time job (9-2). This leaves me the afternoon/evening and weekends to work my Lindt business.

I am without a direct sales gig right now (please don't PM me or tell me how great your company is...I have my eye on one that is starting and am just waiting for the right time )

But when I was with Petlane I did it while working full time, and being a Girl Scout leader and general Mom chauffeur to two kids.

It is definitely do-able, you just need to stay organized. Carry a calendar at all times. I tried as much as possible to schedule family first, although there were times that something came up suddenly with the kids that overlapped with something in my business that had been booked for weeks. It happens.

Before I started in direct sales I had a talk with my husband and kids about how some things would change (he would have to cook more and do more around the house, I would be gone some nights or on weekends, etc.). Any time they whined about me being gone or being on the phone at night I simply had to remind them of the things we had been able to do or buy because of my business and they quickly got quiet.

Thumbs up

I work a 9-5 actually I work a 8-3 and am in direct sales. I have two very active kids, and a Husband who enrolled me in his business which takes up the weekends.
I don't have a lot of time to myself, but at the same time, it's also the reason why I joined Jamberry Nails. It was something for me. Something I'd enjoy.
I picked it because when I tested them out, I got complements right away. I didn't have to muster up courage to do a sales pitch or break out catalogs etc. I felt very comfortable talking about it.
With this company I am able to go to work, and sell them. Not as a retail, but people see my nails and want to buy. I am able to go to my kids activities and again, because they are on my hand, people see it and want to buy. Also a plus, fundraisers can be done!
And I'm able to do the family business, where again, people see and want to buy.
So, I can do a lot of personal sales, and since our parties start at a min of $75, it's easier to get these mini parties done. Then when I deliver the product, I'm not lugging around a huge box either. Very simple, it can fit in my purse!
I guess you really just need to take a look at the company you have in mind and find time. I hear calendar time blocking works well for some people.
Good luck to you!
