I did an entire video series on my website of things some of my clients have done as well what I have learned from others when it comes to word of mouth advertising.

Walt Disney said if you are boring you can expect anyone to talk about you. So how can you use fun in order to generate referrals?

Many network marketing companies train new reps to start with their warm market. I was never comfortable "soliciting" my family, friends, etc.

HOWEVER, I know what my brother, my friends and some neighbors do for a living. Why shouldn't they know what I do for a living? While I don't try to sell any of them my business opportunity or product, practically everyone I know is aware of my business and the products I promote.

I have had friends and family members send me referrals, and some have even become members of our plans (my product). When they use the product, they tell others, bringing me more business.

Without trying to sell them, I make it a point of bringing my business up in conversations wherever I go. It isn't difficult, and it pays off. My hair stylist asked me to leave her brochures, which wouldn't have happened if I hadn't mentioned my business.

Word-of-mouth advertising should be a large part of everyone's marketing campaign.

Unhappy Warm Market Doesn't Always Work

I would like to play devil's advocate with this one.

I don't have family in the area to speak with about my business (my energy service company is available in 6 states currently, but not where they live), but when I mention saving money on gas & electric to people I know, they just change the subject! The northeast seems to be a rather difficult area to work in because people are so skeptical! That forces me to use other methods to find prospects, but they take more time and money (like advertising).

I rarely post on FB, but I'm thinking of starting to post more about business there. But again, my reach is limited because many of my "friends" don't live in areas where we offer service. I can see how FB would be the most useful to people with actual products as then you can post how well they work, etc.

The main key is to make sure you are promoting a product or service that actually has end user benefit. If you are promoting something that no one would ever buy unless there was an opportunity attached to it you are probably less inclined to be a warm marketer. On the other hand if you truly know you have a product or service that beats on price or on service and you can offer people an alternative then you are more likely to excel marketing to your warm market.
