Arrow Do You Despise This 1 MAMMOTH 'Boo-Boo' That Most MLMers Do?

Yes I despise this.. and it is TALKING TOO MUCH!

I've seen this over and over again. When talking to a Network Marketer, they talk too much about their biz.

The products are great, the complan is awesome, we have 10,000 patents pending.. bla bla bla

To make it worse, for some reason we have fallen into this habit of using industry 'jargon' like:

"Are you looking for an extra income stream?
"Are you looking for ....

My point here is it is all about them and not about you!

Lead with value. Hint: Ask a lot of questions!

So for example... I learned this from a TOP income earner:
"Are you open for a side project that does not interfere with what you are doing?"

If they say yes... DON'T go blurbing your script. Ask why? Find their pain/problem and their desire.

Link them both and poof.. you got yourself a new 'stickable' team mate!

Have you experienced what I am talking about here?

I wouldn't say I despise it. It all depends on the situation. Where are you encountering this?

Facebook and networking events. You say hi to someone and then boom... suddenly you are being pitched!

Have you experienced it?

Oh boy! Have I ever. It is a huge turn off. Those are the people that need us most. They need help with their marketing and advertising skills, or else they would know better than to do that. Not everyone is trained as well as the rest of us.

I work directly with my two business partners and they are industry heavy hitters. Our team is advanced, so I could never imagine doing this in a million years. However, this is not the same for everyone else.

I get what you mean! Many people have a lot of potential and could go places if their marketing strategies were redirected properly

It is definitely a turn off, and I think it tends to be the newer folks who do this. I know that I did this in the beginning of building my business. And now when I see others doing it, I cringe! We can't attack people with our product or service - we have to find out how we can help them and then offer a solution! And it needs to be based on some type of relationship. I know one person who, immediately after networking luncheons, runs right over to new people and starts shoving her business card in their face and trying to talk about her product. I highly doubt any of these people are going to become customers!!

I agree. It's ok to softly pitch but harassing someone is a bit much.

I agree but MLM is designed to work the numbers. As a whole it's not designed for needs based selling. The entry fee is basically low so the idea is to get people in and see who sticks. Keep people coming and going that's why many heavy hitters don't use building relationships because most people who join a company are going to quit.

How many times have people gone through a long informative recruiting process only for the person to quit? Myself I'm with ya'll on the needs based thing but I also understand as a whole MLM is what it is.. The people who throw out the opportunity or product at people are just working the numbers. Some will, some won't, so what..

That's why it's good that we as independent contractors can run our business(s) as we want per company guidelines. I say find a need and fill it and then offer the opportunity. Yet maybe it also to some extent may depend on what product is being offered. From what I understand some consumables may take a minute to show a benefit.. Basically it's people working the numbers..
