Question Typical Workload at Ubiqus

I have a question for anyone who has worked for Ubiqus. I started for them in October as a medical transcriptionist and intially received a call everyday to work. I would typically get a file of 30-60 minutes with a next day turnaround time. All of a sudden after Christmas I have received no phone calls for work and when I call in nothing is available. My initial impression when I started Ubiqus was that they were very busy, however I'm wondering if this slow period is more typical and I was only getting a ton of calls initially because it was the end of the quarter if that makes any sense. I expected a few days of slowness after Christmas but not this long. I turned down an assignment right before Christmas but otherwise I have always accepted so I'm hoping I'm not being overlooked due to one refusal. Does anyone have any comment on how steady the work is and when the slow periods usually are?

They are/have been very busy. I had the busiest December I've had since I've been in this business, since 2004. However, I do mostly legal -- hearings, interviews -- so I don't know about the medical side of it. I used to do a lot of corporate, but I think their sales emphasis has changed since Terri moved over to the government side of things.

Be patient with them. They're awesome to work for/with and if you're persistent, I'm sure your workload will pick up to its pre-holiday levels. And make sure you fill out the capacity chart they send out each week. I rarely get calls anymore. They just fill me up with whatever I tell them I'm up for that week.

Good luck!

Thanks for responding! I make sure to fill out the capacity chart that they email me each week. Even though I fill it out I always got a call for assignments, they never automatically assigned anything. I think that I will call tomorrow and see if I can do some corporate work if no medical is available. I have read in some of the other threads that many just call to get work when they've not received a call in awhile. From what I understand I can do corporate, just not legal until I've taken the legal test. I like Ubiqus so far and hope that the work picks back up. I'm hesitant to apply at another transcription company because if work does pick back up to the levels that they were at prior to the holiday then I won't have any time to take assignments from another company.

I have two other clients other than Ubiqus. I would never put my eggs in one basket as it were, so you would be well-advised to market your services to other clients.

One of the best compliments I ever get from clients is the quality folks are always relieved when they see my name on a job because they know they're getting back the best document possible. Shoot for that and you'll do fine there.

I think I will start looking at other companies just to have something to fall back on in case Ubiqus does not pick back up to the level that it was. I thought having more than one contract might be spreading myself too thin the way work was when I started there but you are right it's best not to put all of your eggs into one basket!

It can't hurt to call them. Again, good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

Okay I called them today and was informed that there was no medical work available. They did have some corporate work that I could take. It is lower pay but it's better than nothing. Even at the lower rate it's still alot more than many other companies pay. I think that I may apply at Tiger Fish. I thought about Way With Words but they are apparently extremely hard to get on with so I want to try another company first.

Thank you for the information. I also emailed them and I got the same answer regarding the medical work. I will continue to apply to other companies in the mean time. Good luck with your search.

Good luck with your job search as well. I'm thinking about joining flexjobs for a month and looking at the job listings for coders. I like one more year graduating with my Associates in Health Information Technology so perhaps with the coding training I've already had I can get a coding job. It's worth a shot I guess. They may have transcription jobs listed as well. I will update on here when I finally do get medical work from Ubiqus so anyone wondering can see about how long the slow periods last.
