Congratulations on ordering the pedal -- it's the first step. Like the others, I'd do it again in a heartbeat! I was able to work around kids' schedules, other interests, even hired one of my kids (when he had time) so he could go through university debt-free. Research word expander programs which will help you type more with fewer keystrokes. Even though you can only type the speed of the audio, it can make a big difference. And take care of your ears!

Funny you should mention word expander programs, MommaD. I've just been checking them out. There are a lot of choices. I see a lot of people use Instant Text but that's beyond my budget right now. What's a good program for a beginner on a budget? I thought about using just MS Word autocorrect -- it fits my budget but I know that sometimes you can lose all your shortcuts and that would just tick me off. So I was thinking about PCShorthand since I can get a 1 year license for $30 and worry about buying it later.

Anybody have any other suggestions?

My pedal came today But I won't have time to play with it until Monday

I have used Shorthand for a few years now. I just pay the $30 license fee each year when it comes up. You can maintain separate dictionaries for each contract and also back them up easily. It also works in almost any program and not just Word. I would definitely give it a whirl.

Thanks Wit's End. That's good to know since I actually prefer Word Perfect to Word.

Transcription gave me to much carpal tunnel pain with all the fast typing and so I quit and my carpal went away it's not a good career for long term with the repetitive risk. In other words my answer I would not do it!
