I am trying to unzip the test instruction file for GMR and I cannot get it to work. The FAQ on the GMR website says to use PeaZip to unzip the file. However, when I save it on my computer it doesn't save as a zip file. It's an unrecognizable file. I used PeaZip for the audio file and it worked fine. Anyone else having or had this issue? If so, and you figured it out, please let me know.
Thanks! (Btw, I use Windows Vista. Could that be the problem?)

We cannot help with any part of testing, and that includes downloading the audio or guides.
Good luck with the testing.

Rikizzz, according to a quick internet search PeaZip works with Vista. You might try another unzip program to see if it's a glitch in the program maybe.

Sadie,
Did the number of views on this thread, and the delay before anyone responded, not indicate to you that most transcriptionists believe, just as UTMT said, that helping on a test is just not on? Rikizzz, I hope you can work it out and good luck with your test!

I'd help if I could, but I'm afraid I don't know what the problem is...good luck figuring it out.

Alba: I didn't help her with her test. I gave her some general software advice. And as MTHome, with over 2k posts under her belt and membership since 2006, pointed out, she would help but can't because she doesn't know what the problem is.
And if I had sent the OP that same info in a PM and posted that I sent her a PM, you'd have something to say about the "PM club" too. Rikizzz: Let us know how it goes and if you figured it out. Good luck. ![]() ![]()

Sadie, I don't think that Alba was trying to be mean to you.
A lot of transcription companies include things designed to "trip up" potential transcriptionists, and to see whether they're able to figure out how to get around the road block. This is usually because the work will often include using your initiative to figure out things pertaining to the files you're transcribing. So while you may have just been giving the OP general software advice, you're actually helping her with the test, if figuring out how to get the download to work is a part of the test. Do you see what I'm trying to say? Sounded a lot clearer in my head

If that is part of the test, how to open the file that is just really, um what is the word, lame.
and the other comment. I didn't bash or harrass, I clearly made an observation and commented on it.

Rachiegoth: I do see what you're saying and thank you for posting pleasantly. The way something is posted does make a difference in how it's perceived.
I do work for several companies and have tested for some others, including GMR, and have not found one that does what you're describing, (although that doesn't mean they don't exist). The only time I ran across a problem was for a company that has their own editor and everyone has problems with the download and the files. They have their own thread on here too and people post about it all the time and get help. I just don't see my answer as helping the OP with her test. But we all have different opinions. Thanks. ![]() ![]()

You would think that a transcription company would be more interested in the skills of a transcriber rather than how much knowledge they have about downloading zipped files and being able to unzip them.
There might be a dumb bunny out there who can't unzip a file with Peapea or whatever it's called, but this same dumb bunny just might be an excellent transcriptionist with years of experience and capable of producing quality transcripts. ![]() I understand them wanting folks to be able to follow directions, but putting up hurdles to jump and stop signs related to technology is nuts. ![]() IMO, of course.
