I would like to go to school to do transcription and I was wondering what schools online are the best to attend. I am looking at Allied and CareerStep. Also, I am going to be able to start working from home immediately? I am a stay at home mom and I need to supplement my income. Thanks! For all your help

I have been researching as well. I would recommend using the search feature here on the forum and look up both schools. You will find many answers to your questions that way. I think I have finally decided on Career Step after doing ALOT of research. I would also recommend joining the forum for Career Step careerstep.groupee.net - Powered by Social Strata. You will have to wait to be approved as a member of the forum (I think it was around 24 hours for me) but there is some wonderful information there and you can speak with other students, graduates, and staff members. Good Luck!

Katkins, it may be only medical transcription that you want to do, but if you'd be interested in general transcription as well you would likely be able to begin that even while you're in school for medical transcription. It's sometimes difficult to find places that take "newbies" to transcription, but they do exist. You can check the sticky in the top stickies in this folder for a list of companies. Good luck!

I currently attend MTEC. It is a tough decision to choose a school. The reason I chose MTEC is because there is a teacher assigned to you and you are not trying to guess what you are doing wrong against a set of keys that could be wrong and that they had many more transcription hours to transcribe which will make you a more proficient employee once you start working. They also have online classes and offer webinars for students and new graduates to earn continuing ed credits if you are planning on taking the RMT exam.
Andrews has a very good program and employers look highly on their program as well. Negatives on MTEC - they have shortened the time allotted to finish there program and you must put around 30 hours a week into it to finish on time. They also increase their tuition. I am happy with all other aspects of the school. Most important thing is that your school be AHDI approved. http://www.ahdionline.org/ There are a lot of scam schools out there. I would also recommend you research this field. The jobs are not as plentiful as they once were. Last edited by adaisyandarose; 02-06-2010 at 04:51 PM. |

I went through Career Step. I was quite happy with it, but if there is a school that can provide you with more one on one help and you think you may need it, go that route. I also suggest the forum at Career Step to look into it more

It's good you're looking at your options because the school you pick will make all the difference when it comes to getting a job when you have no experience. Make sure the school is AHDI-approved and has a placement program.

Career Step is great, and the people there are wonderful. Good luck with your decision!
