Default Transcription Question

Anyone here that went to their local community college to take Medical Transcription classes? if so, did you like it? Anything you had to take prior before you actually began the program its self? Also, for those who took online classes for Medical Transcription, did you like learning it online?

My community college where I live does offer those classes. I'm thinking of signing up for it in the Fall year. There are a few things you can take online too. However, I'm one of these people that feels I would do better learning something first, face to face. I also think after you are done and classes completed they can give you listing of local medical offices to apply for. I know I would probably start out in an office and at some point hopefully be able to do it from home.

Also for those of you who do medical transcription can you tell me some pluses and minuses of the job?

It is better to go for regular classes where you can have face to face contact with your instructor.

Medical Transcription is recession proof job. Due to ageing baby boomer and new healthcare policies opportunities are plenty and growth potential is good. After gaining 1-2 years of experiance you can go for home based medical transcription. If you are lucky and have good contacts with doctors you can start your own medical transcription company

Some things people do not like in medical transcrition are the headphones. People do not like to work with headphone. Also it is stressfull job. A lot of work is being outsourced.

Thanks for your reply. I just spoke with a lady I went to school with that I have not seen in years, she told me she does this from home. Has been doing medical trans, for close to 20 years. She told me that alot of hospitals and doctors offices were going to voice reconition and that soon medical transcription would be a thing of the past. She said she is expecting the doc's office she works for to call anyday and say they are switching over to voice rec soon.

Many MTs work as voice recognition editors. Voice rec isn't reliable enough to be used without editors correcting the mistakes.
