Default Info on Call Graph

I see questions on here all the time about Call Graph so here are some facts.

Yes, it was very slow over the holidays. There weren't a lot of new files being put up either.

Since it is transcribing Skype recordings the audio quality can be a bit rough. I think all Call Graphers like to pick and choose their files. The other day there were over 300 files up for transcription. By the next morning, it was down to 77. They were good audio quality interviews (2 people only) so everyone jumped on them.

There are benefits to working CG as with any WAH job. I get to work in my PJ's and don't have to use my gas or pay for child care. So it works for me. Also it is giving me experience to put on my resume. And I'm now able to and am applying with other transcription companies to earn more money.

With CG you can also become a reviewer, reviewing the raw transcripts. You add time stamps and speaker codes and edit for correctness. It is much easier than the raw transcription and you get paid the same money - $10 per audio hour. I became a reviewer after about 2 weeks because I didn't like the way whoever was editing my work. I found errors on the reviewers part. I pointed it out to the company and they offered me reviewer. You should have a really good ear for deciphering, as well as a good grasp of the English language to do either position with them.

All files are only 6 minutes long or shorter and therefore are able to be transcribed and/or reviewed rather quickly.

The only way you can get on with the company is, yes, by referral. The person referring you will get 10% only of the raw transcription files you do. So for every file you do raw transcript on, the referrer gets 10 cents or less. They get nothing for files you do as a reviewer. In my experience only about 1 out of 10 referrals even completes the process to get on with them. (added 2/10/10: FYI the current referral commission is now 5%. I was told they change the commission percentage from time to time.)

So if you don't have any transcription experience but you can type at least 40 wpm and have a pretty good understanding of English, you can probably get on with them if you are so inclined.

You're not going to make a lot of money working for Call Graph, nor are you going to make a lot by referring others. There is a lot of turnover as transcribers gain experience and move on to better paying jobs so they are constantly hiring. But you can get some experience and you can earn some money at the same time.

I wouldn't recommend it as your main WAH job but it can be an egg to fall back on when your other WAH jobs are slow or have no work for you. The pay is also rather quick. Any file you do usually gets reviewed within a couple of days and then your earnings are immediately available to withdraw to your PayPal account.

Note to moderator: I did not post this for referrals, only to inform people.

Hope this helps those of you that have questions.

Gosh, is it just me or does anyone else feel that people are being somewhat unfair to this poster? She did not have a link with her "affiliate/referral link" in her post. She was simply letting others know that she just finally got on with a 'beginner" transcription company and I, for one, just sensed her excitement. I realize we don't want people monopolizing these forums and posting all their affiliate links where they don't belong, but whatever happened to just trying to help another wanna-be transcriptionist get some work, no matter what it pays? Just my two cents from a regular contributor.

Actually, she was telling people to PM her for a referral. The moderator edited it out after the poster wouldn't respond about whether she was receiving a commission.

The only way you can get on with the company is, yes, by referral. The person referring you will get 10% only of the raw transcription files you do.

Not true, I emailed the general email listed on the site and the reply took around 2 days, and was a reviewer within a week or so. And the same thing happened to me, my "corrections" were almost always incorrect and the raw trans was better left alone. I actually like doing the raw trans. better because as many corrections that have to be made to most of the raws and with stopping to insert codes, etc I end up transcribing much faster. However there is always like 4 times the amount of work in the reviews section so that's the only reason I ever do it. The only time I get both raw and reviewed trans done in under 15 minutes is when the speaking is clear. Otherwise, I have to stop and stop and usually average that measly 2.00 an hour that is a waste of time. More than likely the majority of callgraphers are in India and thus are making big money (to them).

It's good to know the facts before jumping to conclusions, isn't it?

Default trying to get on with C--c--

myself I tried once with a transcription test and didn't do very well, so I am waiting for them to "restart" it so I can attempt a test again.

I elected to abbreviate the word number as no. instead of writing it out.

I really want a chance to do this. I have attempted the beginning tests with a few other companies too, but no bites yet. Hopefully soon though.

later peoples.

Did anyone else get on a wait list for a test? if so, how long before you get the test, or did you get it immediately and not even have to wait? I'm assuming because there's a lot of applicants?
