Fayetteville Technical Community College - anyone take thier transcription course through them? They use the career step program and it is only $65 for the first half of the program and $65 for the second. They also use career step's coding program as well. Just wondering if anyone has gone through them and how you liked it.

Does it include the entire program with all the dictations...beginning, intermediate, and advanced?

If so, at that price you don't have much to lose.If you finish it and start applying for jobs, I'd recommend drawing attention to the CS part of your training on your resume, as not many employers will be familiar with FTCC, though they may be familiar with CS.

I'd also ask the school if they have a hiring relationship with any local or national MT employers.

Wow! This program looks great! Are they considered to be accredited by AHDI? The AHDI website doesn't list them, but I wonder if it's considered to be the same as career step. I think I'm going to send them an email to make sure. I really hope they are, if so... I'm signing up for the June class!

The program itself is, but not the school. They list the instructor as Career Step, so you are taking a AHDI approved program.

Yeah, the program is all I'm worried about. I plan to do the apprenticeship program if at all possible, so accreditation is super important to me. Have you started yet?

No, I plan on starting with the next one. Looks like they have a new class starting every month. I just have way to much going on in June to start so soon.

I think I'm going to sign up for the June 3rd program. I figure if the 1st class and 2nd class go back to back, I should finish in December... and baby #3 is due in January... perfect timing! I'm hoping to finish before the baby is here so I can relax during my maternity leave at work while I'm looking for an at home job. Thank you so much for posting this! How do these schools get away with offering it so cheap??? I looked into Everett, but it just takes far too long to go through them. Do you know if you get access to the Career Step boards? I started through Career Step a couple years ago and wasn't able to finish due to financial issues, and the boards were a major help... it's not a make/break deal for me, but just curious. Maybe we'll be classmates soon!

I sent and email to FTCC about their program and partnership with CS. This is the email I got from them:

Good morning! Per your request, I am including some information about the Fayetteville Technical Community College and Career Step online medical classes! FTCC understands that you might have questions about the program, and I hope to offer some information about the courses in an effort to alleviate those questions. If questions remain, please contact me at 910.678.0033 or dardens@faytechcc.edu.

The FTCC & Career Step Partnership
Fayetteville Technical Community College is partnering with Career Step to provide courses in Online Medical Transcription and Online Medical Coding. FTCC is located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, close to Fort Bragg. For more information on FTCC, please the website at www.faytechcc.edu. Career Step is a nationally-known company that provides training to individuals nationwide. If you would like more information on Career Step, please visit their website at www.careerstep.com.

As part of the partnership between FTCC and Career Step, FTCC is offering the Career Step curriculum to students in the form of the Platinum Package. This package includes:
· The Career Step training programs (i.e. Medical Transcription or Medical Coding).
· Career Step Graduate Support Package
· Online Course Materials
· Access to the Career Step Student Support Staff Hotline

The Online Medical Transcription Program
If you are registered for the Online Medical Transcription Program, a student must complete Online Medical Transcription Part I and Online Medical Transcription Part II to receive Career Step’s certificate of completion/graduation. Online Medical Transcription Part I will last 16 weeks or roughly four months with FTCC recommending that a student plan to devote around 30 hours per week to his or her course work. The fee is $65.00.

FTCC requires students to log on to the course site and complete the orientation within the first three days after the start date of the class. Completion of the orientation within the first three days maintains a student’s registration in the MedOnline program. Beginning with the April 8th, 2009 course, books will be digital. A student will not receive hard copy books, but the foot pedal for the course will be mailed to the student after the start date of his or her class. For example: If June 3rd is the start date for Part I, the foot pedal will be mailed June 3rd-6th.

I went to FTCC for transcription. Are you talking about taking it online or at the school? I went to the school and took the class. It was Mon- Fri 9-12. If they are offering online now I can have no idea about the course, but if you are talking about actually going to the school then that is what I did. It was a continuing education class. I went to FTCC for 2 years for credited course (English, Psyc, etc.) so I do have experience with the school if I can answer any question. Hope that helps a little.
