Default Quick question

When you are taking the course, do you ever have to log in at a specific time (for instance, for a real-time online class or test). I wouldn't want to have to try to fit my work schedule around it

I finished the orientation. I think it might take me a little while on this Medical Word Building part. Does any one know what's the average time on getting through this part of the course. I would like to know if any of the graduates found a job yet and was Career Step helpful.

I started the course on January 13th and so far am absolutely loving it. I had taken a medical terminology course years ago and had actually started Career Step at one time but never finished. I'm in the medical word building now - it's amazing how much I remember from before! I know the dreaded grammar section is next. It's tough for me to keep on schedule - full-time daycare provider by day and general transcriptionist/Uppercase Living sales rep by night. Love it, love it, love it!

Default Any updates from those who started in Summer/Fall 2009

I've read thru all the posts within this thread - extremely interesting & helpful. There have been several posts regarding those who signed up & the excitement that goes along with that. However, there have been very few posts regarding updates once the course started. Have any completed MT Course I or II thru FTCC (in conjunction with Career Step)? Did you complete each course in the estimated 4 months or did you have to extend that time or retake the course? If completed, have you taken the RMT exam yet? Do you now have a job either in an office setting or at home?

Here's a little about my particular situation (for any who may be interested)...
I paid the large fee thru Career Step in 2003 (it was $1300 & I broke the payments out into four credit card installments) & got about halfway thru the course. I was working full-time, but had no children. It was difficult, but doable. Then, we started building our house, I got a promotion to Vice President (had to do that job plus train someone to take my job), then I got pregnant with twin boys. Needless to say, that was too much to handle. I filed (& paid for) several extensions thru Career Step, but finally gave up on that. I hated to invest all of that money only to walk away with nothing to show for it, but I just could not do it all. The main reason I looked into Medical Transcription in the first place was to have something to work at from home after I had children. Our boys are now in Pre-K & it would be a good time to go back & finish what I started in 2003 (I have been a stay-at-home-mom since they were born in 2005 - my husband is the only one contributing any income). We want to continue to focus on our boys as much as possible by allowing me to stay home with them. I want to be the one to drop them off at school in the mornings & pick them up in the afternoons. I am assuming this is something I could do with some medical transcription work (would prefer the work-at-home kind since we live in a rural area of TN & the nearest town is a 30-minute drive).

I began his course in August of 09. I work part-time and also occasionally take care of my grandsons. I was not able to finish the first semester in the 16 weeks although I'm sure there have been those who have been able to finish in the 16 weeks alotted. I asked for an extension thru FTCC and I still won't finish the first part on time with the extra 60 days because I do financial work and have been doing end-of-the-year returns and W2s. But, FTCC says that if we can't finish on time we can continue to work thru Career Step as long as we finish the whole course by our finish date. (That's one year.) All that to say I love the course. Pay extra attention to the grammar section because you will need it when you get to Perfect The Text. Raven7, the tests are all online whenever you are able to take them. There are no real time tests. MommyOfTwinBoys, you have your hands full. I'm glad you found this forum so you can do the course for the great low price! This forum is where I found out about taking this thru FTCC. It's a bargain thru them. Perfect The Text has really slowed me down. I thought I was better at spotting errors, but I guess I'm not. LOL.
If anyone has any more questions, I will be happy to answer if I can. Good luck and have fun.

There are a couple of things maybe I should expand upon. When you go past the 60 day extension, you will receive a failing grade at FTCC until you finish part 1. Then you notify Sydney Darden and she will change your grade to a passing grade. Also, she said to allow 2 or 3 months for the final exam because you have 3 chances to take it. So, in my case, I would need to finished with the whole course by May so I would have June thru August 5th to get my final done.

Thanks KyGranny for your information - some good stuff there!

Keep us posted on your progress, and I wish you the best of luck in getting it all finished.

I am wondering (being the worrier that I am) if the reason some of the ladies who started their courses over the last year have not been successful in finishing them and that is why we have very few updates on their progress. That in itself has me concerned more than anything. I am going to devote all of my free time to it, but that is the problem! lol life being what it is there are few of us who are not working, or taking care of kids and homes or all of the above, so the time to devote to FTCC is limited. I know in my case it will be probably a good 12 - 14 hour day I will be putting in between my regular life and what I have to do for this course, at least there is some flexibilty from FTCC if you don't manage to finish everything on time.

I just hope that my determination stays strong and I can do this.

Just finishing up the Medical Word Building section on root words - will take the unit test tonight - Hoping that finishes this section, but maybe there's more? I've got just a handful of root words giving me trouble yet, but I'll have them memorized by tonight. I have to complete the whole MWB module by the 27th to remain on schedule, but would like to get it done with a couple days early so I can start on the grammar, which I hear is very difficult. :-(

Just got hired for a general transcription at-home position, so that's gonna cut into my study time now too - oh well, no rest for the wicked!

I'm starting Feb. 3. I am so ready. I had took a online course with someone else last year and didn't know until I had finished that it was the wrong school. I couldn't find a job.

I am starting on Feb 3 also! For those who have taken the course recently..........did you purchase the books? Is there someplace to look for used books to purchase (other than ebay). I was considering just printing them off and putting them in 3-ring binders.....any advice?
Thanks!! I'm very excited to get started.
