Thank you for the indepth information Judy, those are all valid points I need to consider.
Bamakid, while ISS does seems like a great program, I can't afford it at this time. That's why I was considering BeSt or SMA Scoping Made Affordable (SMA) does teach the CAT program(s), but it doesn't specify which one(s). Another concern of mine is the amount of experience they bring to the training, which really is not much at all. I'll either wait to get more $$ to go though ISS or go through BeST....we'll see. Thanks again! |

With ISS you can pay for each course as you go, which is what I'll be doing.

Yeah, that's another option, it doesn't seem so bad when it's spread out over time. |

I'm just a scoping student, so take this for what it's worth.
In my opinion, I would go with a school that teaches you about the CAT software. I would be disappointed to have to learn about that on my own, after having gone through training, since you can't scope without it. I'm not knocking any school that doesn't offer a module regarding it; I'm just commenting on what I would be looking for in getting training to be a scopist. I did some research before deciding on what school to go with. Hanging around court reporter/scopist message boards helped me quite a bit in making my choice As a result, theschools that talked about teaching you a CAT and learning steno were the ones I looked at the most, although I knew a module on grammar and punctuation skills would be important. Good luck with whatever you decide. ~~Rory~~Edited by: RorySF |

Thanks for your input Rory. If you don't mind me asking, what school did you decide to go with?

Sorry Rory, after doing a bit of research I just figured out where you are going. Looks like it's going well so far!

Yep, I decided to go with ISS ![]() It's going to take me longer than most, because I pay per module, but I should be done with my notereading module this month and then I've heard it's all downhill from there, so I've got my fingers crossed. ~~Rory~~ |

Well, having taken a course that did NOT teach anything about using CAT software my opinion would be...take one that DOES! I've had a difficult time learning the software and still don't feel comfortable with it. Of course, if you're a techie (I'm not!) you may not have this problem

If I do decide on ISS, I will most likely also make payments.
Thanks for the feedback Lisa, while I do consider myself a techie, I don't have the time to go throughthe trial and error it will take to figure it out. |
