New Leaf,
Hi, just wondering if you are no longer scoping. I seem to remember seeing your name a lot while going through old posts. Just curious, Stefanie

For those who may not be aware: When CAT software is transferred from one party to another, there is a transfer fee involved. I think it's around $350 for Eclipse, and when I last checked, it was more than that for Case Catalyst. It's necessary to always check with the individual vendor to see what current fees are.
It isn't just a matter of sending off your software CD and the key. It has to be done through the vendor to make it legal. Also, check whether the software is still under a support contract. If there were, for example, six months still left on a contract, that can be transferred to the new owner. Some people figure they'll just wing it, buy software inexpensively from someone, and start using it. When the day comes, however, that there's a problem and tech support is needed, they will know whether you have a legal copy or not, and whether you're still under a support contract. Sometimes my students get very excited over purchasing software at a very low price, and then when they look into the details, it's not such a bargain. And if there's been an update to the software, and there has not been a support contract, the new owner would have to pay for an update to the new version -- at full price. Sometimes, someone *may* be selling at a bargain price -- if they make the selling price low enough to take into account transfer fees *and* support, and still make the transaction well below what would have to be paid for brand new software! Another thing to watch out for: Someone advertised Eclipse software for sale within the last year for $2,400. She had decided not to do scoping (that's another story for another day; she's still scoping), had purchased her software through a loan *with interest* and thought she could get someone to take up all the interest on her loan. Anyone could have purchased Eclipse software brand new, with a year of support/upgrades, for around $1,650! ![]() So...just do the work when considering buying "used" software. I understand that when a license transfer takes place, the vendor just sends out brand new CDs to the new owner, to avoid any possibility of damaged CDs. It's the *license* that is actually transferred. They may also send out a new key. Just check with the vendor!

I'm sorry I answered the question about scoping.. but not sure what happened..
No, no longer a scopist. I worked as a scopist and did well, till last may I went into the hospital for an appendectormy to make a long story short the surgeon screwed up and after 5 weeks in the hospital I made it home. During that time I had to transfer my accounts over to a new scopist. At that point I was sooo tired, and burnt out that i didn't want to go back into the field when I got clearnance from my doctor.. (Which was 8 months later).. so I went into a new field just for a change of pace and have no regrets. So I left just cause when I got sick, I couldn't even think about getting back into it.. Jen |

By the way.. I paid near 1300.00 for my software, and lasat I checked the transfer fee was 495.00.. I am asking for best offer over 400.00 I will take 400.00 but I am also flooded with people wanting it, so now it's about best offer. 900.00 is a steal.. (400 + 495 transfer fee)
