My contact at Stenograph just sent me the transfer agreement with the latest transfer fees for Case Catalyst. They are:

Version 9 Edit $690

Version 8 Edit $820
Version 7 Edit $920
Version 6 Edit $1,020

As you can see, you pay more to tranfer a license for an older version.

Case Catalyst sells for $1,195 new for students of my scoping program, and $1,295 if someone just contacts Stenograph directly. They do not make it easy to resell their software. Version 8, for example, resold for $400, and the transfer fee of $820, is slightly more than the purchase of the latest version new.

I am not positive, but I think the Eclipse transfer fee is $495 for all versions. Check with Advantage Software for their transfer fees. We're talking about Case Catalyst from Stenograph here.

It is very important to find out what version of the software is being sold "used." Case Catalyst is just out in the latest update -- Version 9. You have to be very careful that the older version you are buying will continue to be compatible with the newest versions. You would need to contact Stenograph to find that out.

Don't kill the messenger. I'm just passing on what I've learned from Stenograph.

I have actually put in a request to find out the transfer fee from stenograph.. I will of course make sure you get a deal if your still interested in the software..

Remember there are tax and fees on top of the software price.. I paid nearly 1400.00 for my 1290. software..

The original purchse price for the first year comes with a year of tech support and upgrades.

When buying "used" software, if the tech support has been used up, so to speak, because the software was purchased more than a year ago, you will also face paying for tech support for the software, in addition to transfer fees, and tax.

It's easy to just call Stenograph and check out any possible transaction directly with them. They would have to be involved in the transfer, in any case.

Yes, I do encourage you to call stenograph, as I don't believe the information that was just given was totally true.. I think that the transfer will come with tech support exactly what you'd get your first year. I am double checking myself as I'm not into scamming people out of their money *cough* and I would not want someone to "regret" doing business with me *cough* and honestly am not looking to making a killing off the software.. I want to make it a deal for someone cause God knows trianing for scoping is EXPENSIVE enough, so if I can just help one more person.. I will be happy..

Jenny

It was totally true. I copied it right off of the license transfer form from Stenograph.

Support costs with all CAT software transfers will depend on whether time remains on an existing contract, or whether it's a case of starting all over with regard to support. That's why Stenograph *has* to be involved in a legal transfer of software.

Hope you get over your cough soon. Allergies?

Those fees are huge! This is what I was talking about in the other thread. It is another reasonwhy you should start out with a cheaper software, just in case it isn't exactly what you thought it would be. That didn'thappen to Jen, but it has happened to a lot of scopists. It is a lot of money, and it is almost impossible to get any money back out of it.
