Angry McMeel Transcriptions

This is a warning about McMeel Transcription. Stephanie McMeel contacted me to do some overflow transcription work for her in August with an agreed upon 30 day pay. She accepted the transcript and told me it was excellent and to submit a PayPal invoice to her for payment. I have not heard a word from her since August and she has not paid me. I know that she owes other people money, too. I re-send my invoice to her on a regular basis and she has not communicated with me at all.

At this point I am looking into other options for collecting payment.

If Stephanie McMeel contacts you for overflow RUN.

She is registered here and on other forums as Mom2Austin. She owes a lot of people a lot of money, totaling in the tens of thousands of dollars, and has made no attempt to pay or even keep in contact with most of them. She is definitely not someone you want to do business with.

I guess I'm really shocked to read this because I've been apart of wahm for quite some time.

I'm sorry that you were duped. Have you contacted the Better Business Bureau?

Do you have an address for her? Just curious. I think I'd have to send a certified letter to her putting her on notice. I'm still in shock. I did that to my husband's boss when she suddenly closed the doors without giving notice. She was supposed to have paid us like I think three or four days before, and nothing. So, because I'm in the legal field, I wasted no time. I put her on notice that I would be contacting an attorney to deal with the matter if we did not get his certified check by a certain date along with his vacation and sick leave pay. I even gave her the amount down to the penny!!!!!!! And I think three days before the deadline, we got both certified checks because I was not accepting personal or "payroll checks" and take the chance of them bouncing.

In this day and time, you have to stand up or people will walk all over you.

Good luck!

To keep it on the first page so she can't find any more victims.

Ms. McMeel has now posted on another forum that she and her family are taking a vacation to Disney World. She still has not paid those she owes and claims hardship as the reason for not paying.

So stay far, far away from Stephanie McMeel owner of McMeel Transcription.

Wow.

You've probably thought of this already, but I just wanted to throw it out there just in case.

Have you thought about contacting the AG in her state? The laws vary from state to state, but you and the rest of the transcriptionists she owes may be able to file a complaint with the AG. To clarify - in my state, contractors can file a complaint with the AG when they do not receive payment. I don't know if her state AG is the same or not.

Also, have all of you thought of getting together and filing a lawsuit against her? I would bet working together you can find a way to file the suit in her state and testify telephonically. Since it's tens of thousands she owes, maybe each one of you would want to do it individually so it could be taken care of in small claims court instead of civil court. Once you get a judgment against her, you could at least file liens, etc.

What about a collection agency?

Just some thoughts.
