Nobody is having good success with this, unless you consider earning $2.50 per hour good success.

Yes, I agree that $2.50 is way too low of a price to be paid. One hour of transcription depending on speed, quality of audio, accents, no. of speakers, etc. could take as long as 6 hours to do, even if you are a fast typist. Plus some people talk faster and can fit more words into an hour than others. An excellent quality audio, single or no more than 2 speakers on the file could take 3 to 31/2 for a fast typist typing at the least 80 wpm.

The warning posts on this are absolutely correct. At the risk of stirring up a hornet's nest, I just don't understand why even those people who just want to earn a little bit of money want to spend a large amount of time doing it. If you want to earn a little bit of money, wouldn't you rather spend a little amount of time doing it?
If you are afraid of testing or of a mental commitment to the serious line of work that transcription is (and I don't know at all whether that's the case), I urge you to consider other ways to earn money at home (WAHM is full of them) if you just want a little money. But if you want more than a little money and you like transcription, I urge you not to consider CallGraph. If you have the aptitude and skills to do transcription, which is in fact specialized work no matter whether it is general, legal or medical transcription, I urge you to consider real transcription, which pays at a really unacceptably low $25 to $30 per audio hour up to $100 per audio hour and more, with an average for general transcription probably being $50 to $60 per audio hour. |

If you are serious about transcription as a career, there are established transcription companies that will hire with no experience and will pay significantly more than $10.00 per audio hour. Doing transcription for Call Graph benefits no one but Call Graph.

Susan
Thankyou for that - I am interested in getting into transcription. What are some of the other places that will hire w/ no exp?? I am having trouble finding those. I certainly don't want to be pd $2.50/hr. Any help at all will be much appreciated. Deb |

Deb, Mountain West is one. They have asked not to be discussed on message boards, so if we had further discussion about them they might ask for this whole thread to be deleted, which would be a shame. But you should be able to Google and find them. Among transcription companies their pay is very low, but one reason is that they do take people with no experience. Quite a few people have started with them. I believe Accutran may be another. If you have great skills, Tigerfish doesn't require transcription experience, but you do have to have very, very good English language skills.
