Default Ways to Save on Food

I have used the Grocery Game for about 4 years now. I must say I love it! It only costs pennies per day and each week you are provided a list of what is on sale, at which store (you select which stores you shop at) and what coupons to use.

I don't even cut the coupons.......I just keep the circulars from the Sunday papers in date order. The list will specify which circular from which date the coupon appeared in.

The idea behind this service is to only use the coupons when the item is already on sale. Often, you are able to purchase the items for less than a dollar! The savings are truly amazing!

I save food through preserving left-over then recooked again. Also I make sure that the food I serve is enough for my family.

I agree! I am so anxious to learn how to start canning. I also have learned the more you cook 100% from scratch the cheaper it is which can become a HUGE Savings when you have a larger family.

I hope it is okay to post this website here, I have no affiliation with the site owner and have nothing to financially gain by sharing it. Hillbilly Housewife | Low Cost Home Cooking from Scratch

I good friend gave me this site several years ago because we having a hard time with affording food. I followed her $75 weekly menu for feeding a family of 6. The recipes there have been a real lifesaver to us over and over again. With the price of food inflation it may be a little more than $75 depending on your area but it helps a Great Deal.

Hope it can be a blessing for others like it has been for us.

Planning the weekly menu is also a great way to save. Plan menus that use like ingredients. For example, I buy a rotisserie chicken and do chicken with veggies one night, chicken quesadillas the next, and use the leftover carcass to make a chicken stock.

There are tons of ways to save using this method.

I also try to plan out meals for the pay period, then make a list of staples needed. I then only buy what's on the list, which does work well for me.

I make a list and shop every two weeks for the following 2 weeks. Other than highly perishable foods I don't have to go shopping as often. It has saved me tons because now I am not shopping when I am hungry and getting things I don't need. I get extra bread and freeze them till I need them. Get meats at Sams club and Freeze them in ziplock bags so I only defrost one meals worth. It has also helped that I go with my Mom. She is shopping for her house and me for mine but we keep each other in check...and split foods if it is too much for one but both need it. It really works.

The absolutely BEST thing I have done to save money is to send my husband shopping with a list.
He never buys things that are not on the list (and I do).

I can go with a list of 10 items and spend over $100 on things that were not on the list.

Send the hubby! (and put your feet up for a whole second while he shops)
