Thumbs up

I like the Goodwill for a few reasons. One of course, they have some great buys! I enjoy just walking thru to see what new things there are. I haven't found anything super fab yet, but I can get some jeans, and purses are always fun to check out.

I also like the fact, that they really do help people in need. If they need a place to live, I've seen the organization help with housing, jobs and training for people that just need a little help to jump start life again. Its one of the very few charities i help. they just opened one in our town and hubby and I both go and just check it out. We relocated last year and jobs where hard to come by out here, like everywhere else. The good will had some great buys when hubby needed to up grade his work clothes and it didnt cost an arm and leg, that we didn't have in the first place.

Believe it or not, I have an acquaintance who's friend and his wife actually go to Antique and Vintage type stores and buy whatever catches their eye. They have been selling the items on Ebay and have been making a steady stream of profit. Not to say they are making a killing with this venture, but dedicating their free time to this makes them think about doing full time everyday

I grew up on thrift stores. I know people will donate brand new or almost new stuff and valuable old stuff. I never went to Goodwill because it was too far away. Some people say dumb things. That person probably has credit card debt too. LOL
But seriously the best answer is Goodwill is for SMART people. And you are supporting others. That was just a narrow-minded opinion.

Default Goodwill

Goodwill is for everybody. If you shop at Goodwill, your money is going to a good cause. You are helping the people that work there. Anytime you make a purchase there it is also an eco friendly choice since you are re-using an item.

Goodwill Industries International, Inc. Donate

So, when you go into a GW to make a purchase you are actually donating to a very worthy cause. GW is not for poor people at all, (although the great bargains are a help to those who are less fortunate) but an outlet where you can come in, buy something and donate that money from the sale to HELP poorer people get job training etc etc... If anything, they want people with money to come in and spend spend spend!

It's even better than just donating because you get a great pair of jeans...or a fur coat as a reward!!!

Either way you spin it, shopping at GW has a positive benefit all the way around!! Shop on!!!!!
Exactly. That's why a few of the stores have banded together and they've created an online auction site to get the most value from their donations. The money is spent to support the programs of Goodwill not just provide cheap stuff for poor people to buy. I have bought stuff some great stuff from the online store.

I adore thrift shops! I have bought real Louis Vuitton bags, Gucci bags, Chanel sunglasses, and have five pairs of Ferragamo shoes from thrift shops, and not paid more than $3 a pop! I bought an old worn LV bag for 50 cents and sold it on ebay for $108!!! I LOVE the thrill of the hunt, LOL!!!!! Truly, thrift store shopping is my hobby!

WOW what a terrible thing for your friend to say to you. Sounds real ignorant. I like thrift stores personally you can find cute and unique items or just go in and have some laughs with some of the crazier items.

I donate there and shop there. I don't buy a lot of clothes but I love to go there and look through the books.
