I love Goodwill! And who's to say where you can shop..I think spending less on clothes is very smart.

Goodwill gets money from selling the stuff people donate. They need people to buy the items, and then they do use the money in the community. If nobody is buying the stuff in the resale shops, there isn't any purpose to most of the donations. I love resale shops and the like, although I don't normally buy clothing there - just furniture and home items that I repurpose. It sounds like your friend is out of touch with reality and probably spends too much on clothing, too.

Well, I wouldn't call myself "poor". I'm not as well off as she is. I have no problem wearing second-hand clothes. I enjoy going to yard sales, consignment sales, etc.

I do think that some people dump their junk at Goodwill, but you can actually find some really nice items there. Don't you think?
I love thrift stores! Don't worry about what your girlfriend thinks! I bet you've got more money than her at the end of the day for being a smart shopper. She may think that she is better than everyone else, but she isn't as wise as you are with your cold hard cash.

She needs to read Rich Dad Poor Dad sometime. Millionaire Next Door is a eye opener for allot of people.

You're friend needs to learn some manners. Yeah she's rich, but she's rude. Being rich doesn't make you a better person, it only makes you more lucky than other people. Kindness makes people better. I agree with everyone, you're smart. And you're friend doesn't appreciate that because she isn't.

That hurts my feelings that someone would say that in a group of people in an attempt to put one individual down. Doesn't show that person in a very good light.

I used to run the management company that operated the DAV thrift stores in Colorado. Yes, some people just give junk, thinking it is "good enough" for the poor. But the poor do not shop in thrift stores. Other socioeconomic groups do, including the well-off. And you'd be surprised at some of the stuff given to us. Best was when a wife and husband were divorcing - we'd end up with dozens of high-end suits, etc.

I don't shop at Good Will as much as I do one of the more local thrift stores sponsored by my church. I prefer the church stores as I feel they are more localized, but the concept is the same - awesome finds for not very much money. As a DIY kind of girl, most of what I buy are furnishings and odds and ends, but it's still a lot of fun!

I find nice things at Goodwill. They are cleaner than most thrift stores. I guess I would suggest what someone else already has... and maybe not mention where you got the item.

I love shopping at thrift and consignment stores. I've bought some really nice things and paid a lot less for it, plus it's fun to just see what sort of diamond in the rough you can find! That was an ugly comment from that person. I think I read somewhere on here someone mentioning the book, "The Millionaire Next Door". Lots of people who are famous and millionaires now started out buying from Goodwill. Keep on shopping with the thrifties!

Thumbs up Even my teens LOVE thrift stores.

You have to know what you are looking for but we are definite thrift store junkies. We donate and we shop and love it. You can find great deals on the 1/2 off days. It is hit and miss but something we as a family have found to be fun and financially rewarding.
