I found a cover letter template that I used but I changed it A LOT. I resent my resume along with the cover letter about 5 minutes ago. Now will see if I get an email back.

Hi All, I applied a couple of weeks ago. Also a couple of years ago. I rec'd. an auto response to the former. I have a wealth of experience doing research. I have a degree and a certification. I do not have fluency in any other language. Is that the missing link? I did a search on the positions they are offering. Originally, they did hiring blitzes on university campuses. Ergo, they'd have been hiring undergrads. Hmmm. In addition, they do seem to favour rather obscure requirements i.e. one ad specified fluency in Nordic language. Haven't encountered too many (if any!) Nordic speakers m'self. ![]() My cover letter was brief, just reiterating what was included in the body of the resume. Additionally I told them about my special interest areas, etc. So! When I complete my degree in Rocket Science I should apply again. You think? LOL

Hi Leaf,
I've wondered some of the same things you have... I'm not bi-lingual so I figured that would maybe count against me, but I did stress the variety of interests and experience I have in various areas. However, I'm wondering too if my years of experience are working against me from my resume because it gives away my age - which is quite far from most under-graduates, in fact I'm old enough to be a grandmother to an under-graduates kids - LOL! But, that's okay if I don't get hired because it is far off the beaten path of my normal career, and I really should stick with finding work in the fields I'm licensed in. But, good luck to all of you who applied as you wait to hear! I'm not placing any bets on Google for me. Tammara <!-- var SymRealOnLoad; var SymReal; Sym() { window.open = SymWinOpen; if(SymReal != null) SymReal(); } SymOnLoad() { if(SymRealOnLoad != null) SymRealOnLoad(); window.open = SymRealWinOpen; SymReal = window.; window. = Sym; } SymRealOnLoad = window.onload; window.onload = SymOnLoad; //--> |

As an FYI, I don't speak a second language fluently. And I have pretty extensive experience over a long period of time too (ask ResumesASAP since she did my resume!). They said in the letter saying they choose me based on my resume and cover letter. So I have to thank ResumesASAP (Jennifer) for the awesome job she did!

I sent my resume/cover letter yesterday and did not get the automated response - think I should resend it again today? Seems to me if you don't get the response maybe they are not getting it.

It's certainly worth a try, Angelmaries. The consensus seems to be that automated replies are not received on a continuum. Until you receive one, there is no way of knowing your resume got through to them for sure. I have decided I will apply on a monthly basis.
