My new test date is October 13th. I assume my deadline for turning it in will be the 21st. How soon after does one do the conference call? Do they give you several days to chose from for the conference? After the conference when do they usually schedule the start date? The following Monday? 2 Mondays?...

I have a PC and laptop, can I use either for the job? Can I take my laptop to the library or if I travel and work from my hotel?

Curious because I'm supposed to go on a big extended family trip the last week of October. I'm afraid they'll want me to start that week. I swear, I never go anywhere, but this month a lot has happened and I've had to travel.

Everyone, thanks sooooo much for all your help. This forum is wonderful. Wish me luck!

You aren't supposed to rate in public, but since you would be taking your private laptop, you could probably find semi-private areas to work. I love this job, despite the daily nausea when checking my e-mail to see if I was let go. I really don't think it is a large percentage of raters who are let go though...
Good luck on your test! Just read everything and take your time, it isn't timed, but make sure you don't wait until the last moment to begin.

Help! Anyone else having problems rating? I keep getting the same experimental task over and over. There is no submit button only a create one. I've logged in and out several times and just keep getting the same task w/my comments already in there and it won't submit. I don't know what to do. I've been looking on the hub for a way to provide technical feedback. I really behind on my hours this week and was hoping to get a few in right now but can't!

Thanks!

I'm in the same boat, except that mine is a Canadian experimental task, as I'm an English (CA) rater. I reported the problem, following the format recommended for reporting issues, found near the bottom of the SxS FAQ document on the hub.

My queue has been cleared now, so they may have fixed the problems enough that we can get back to rating, without further issues.

What have you found to be the best method for keeping track of your time? I just started as a QR this week and I am trying to figure out the easiest way to keep my time straight.

If I faxed in my initial paperwork this week (Wed), would I most likely hear tonight about the exam materials, or will it take another week+?

Thanks!

Thanks chrispe. So how do you set it up? I downloaded the desktop tool. This will help a lot because I have a lot of different projects I work on for different jobs. For google do you just put in the different tasks like URL, SxS, etc. and then just track on one of those when you're working on that specific one? Or is there a way that you have found that works better? I'm trying to not recreate the wheel =)
