Someone mentioned before that unless you've done something really awful, like fraud, that you don't have to worry about credit. Not even a bankruptcy. So I'd still go for it.

He was passed over for a job that would have tripled his typical income because of "bad credit"...um hello...the job could have helped him pay the bills!!

I balked at that as well. My credit is good but I didn't want to take the hit on my FICO score for a hard inquiry. I think if you read the fine print, it says that they only run credit checks if you are applying for a financial position. Theyrun a criminal background check. Be sure to select that you want to be copied on the results - in case of ID theft. Anytime you are applying for a position (even a marginal one) at a Fortune 500 and above, expect them to check everything, including your sock drawer. As a Quality Rater, you will be dealing with proprietary materials. While from our viewpoint, this does not seem like a big deal, when you are at the level of G, every little bit gives you an advantage over your competitors. To my knowledge, none of the other search engines have implemented a program like this. Wish they would! Tightwad |

This kind of stuff just really hits my hot buttons. Society is getting so transparent that entire classes of people become marginalized precisely when a decent job could put them back in the mainstream. Many of these people used to be my clients back when I was in the legal business, and I could tell their frustration and anger at how things have progressed. Even on the criminal side, what's the point of having probation and sentences when just about any kind of conviction willbar you FOR LIFE from entire classes of work, and frequently any work at all? People with skills and experience that go unused, and who consequently wind up with (1) bad credit because they can't make enough money to pay their bills and (2) frequently a return to crime because many are left with no other option. Sure there are positions and situations in which you need to dig for dirt on people, but the vast majority of the time, no. Back in the '80's, polygraphs were all the rage for employers, and the feds stepped in and said that you couldn't polygraph employees or job candidates except in certain sensitive industries. A few states now restrict the use of criminal and credit background searches, or put a time frame on them, but more needs to be done. Unfortunately, this is a subset of the population with very little political clout and nobody to stand up for them.

kerrinne--Sorry to hear about the test results. It sounds like you passed Part I and didn't pass Part II, is that right?</font>
</span> I just want to check because a PP (I can't remember who at the moment) was speculating that only Part I really mattered, so this would help clear things up for other folks. </span><br style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"><br style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Keep your spirits up, a job perfect for you will come along soon. <br style="font-family: Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;"></span> |

Thanks Morda and Hopeful. I have applied for the Ads Rater position, and so we'll see if anything goes from there. If not, Morda's right, I will find something that will work at some point in the future. Just trying to be positive right now, because after this I found out another job I wanted couldn't wait until I'm available to work weekdays on August 7th. Two big disappointments in one week is really tough to swallow. Blah. On a non-bitter note, congrats to those who are filling out paperwork and preparing to test! Take your time testing in Part II, and second guess yoruself a lot. I didn't, and I should have.

For those of you who applied and got responses - did you send a cover letter and attach your resume or did you just paste it into the body of your email? Thanks!

, looks like I'd better invest in a lot of paper and ink to get through the initial testing.
